The other day my 8000 made some electrical shorting noises inside then just stopped. I have read that Nikon charges an arm and a leg for scanner repairs. I called them and they said that if it's the power supply it'll be around $450. and could take quite a while. I took it to a local electronic repair guy and he said he'd look at it. Yup, it was the power supply and he ordered a couple of parts and a part from Nikon and less than a week later the thing is up and running for $238. I guess point is that they are mostly repairable if someone is actually willing to do it.
