Nikkor Lens I should have not sold off

I am using the Nikon Z7ii and had the Nikkor 24mm to 200mm AF zoom lens. I wanted a longer lens for most of my photographs, so I bought the Nikkor 28mm to 400mm AF zoom lens which allowed me to have a longer telephoto capability.

• Nikkor 24mm to 200mm AF zoom lens - is a lighter lens and allows the camera to be level when the camera with this lens is set of a flat surface for a long exposure.
• Nikkor 28mm to 400mm AF zoom lens - has the longer lens, but it is heavier of the two lenses, noticibly so and is also physically a wider lens.

I sold the Nikkor 24mm to 200mm AF zoom lens to B&H Camera. Now I wish that I had kept both, the Nikkor 24mm to 200mm AF zoom lens for most use and the Nikkor 28mm to 400mm AF zoom lens for when I needed the longer lens.

Have you had regrets about selling used lenses or other camera equipment?

The solution is I almost never sell anything, which of course leads to a storage problem and a wife problem.
My one almost regret was selling my Kowa Six with the side grip, it was the best handling MF slr I’ve ever used. But I had too many MF camera systems and I knew I wasn’t going to use it anymore.

I have sold very little of my gear, that is why I have way too much. I did sell my Konica T and lenes including the 57mm 1.2 to buy a used Nikon F with motor drive, then sold the F to buy a F2, then the F2 to buy a F3P. Other wise I still have my Kodak Retina IIIC big, gift from my aunts in 1965, my Pentax Spotmatic, got it in 1966, have all the lens, after the move to digital and every one either sold or donated film bodies and lenes I picked up Miranda, Petir, Topcon Auto 100 and Kowa for just the sake of having them. Still have my Sigma digital gear, the film camers suffer the oragne glow of death in the viewfinders, but then bought Minolta and Sony, have all the lens and bodies. Then added Minolta MF gear. I am to the point that I will either start to sell some, but most likely dontate.

Have you had regrets about selling used lenses or other camera equipment?

I had some Peachpit Press books on digital imaging (Bruce Fraser) that I'd given away, mistakenly believing they were outdated. I've just rectified that mistake and am back in possession of some basic and timeless knowledge to the topic.

Otherwise, I sold my Canon EF equipment in a big way because mirrorless cameras were coming along. The decision was probably the right one, but the proceeds were a disgrace. I hate to think about it.

Selling anything that is good for oneself is always tough. Unless one has the mentality of keeping things simple and minimal, just swapping gear to keep what drives the current fancy. I'm no latter by a mile, so I have a lot, even if I use a fraction. When I do sell though, I don't beat myself over it, but I do until decision is in. Reason why I still own all the Hasselblad stuff with only SWC and Flexbody I do want to keep.

I'm considering to sell off my film F camera's and stop shooting film all together after buying a D780. I didn't want fo shift to Z system lenses ( and paying the same glass at Nikon twice) as I own all the F glass primes and zooms which fitted perfectly on the D780. So it stops here. I can shoot this camera and glass for the rest of my life imho. I owned a mirrorless Olympus system but the small sensor just gave me no real advantages in weight reduction as I shot all their rather heavy f1.8 and f1.2 primes and pro f2.8 zooms. So I got rid off all the Olympus gear and glass at once. Didn't regret it. Conclusion: I stick to a system and glass or I get rid of it and shift to another. I understand your regret but lugging a 28-400 and a 28-200 seems counterproductive imho and why did they develop superzooms in the first place? My answer is: these can stay on the cam forever! ;-)
