Nikkor enough lens for ADOX CMS 20?

Hi,
I'm new to these forums - in fact photography forums in general. A lightening bit of background:

I'm 24 and have been developing and printing my own B&W 35mm film for about 4 years as an enthusuastic ameteuer. I'm claiming no great artistic talent or technical skill, but I'm satisfied with a most of my prints and enjoy the whole proccess. I've previously used my uncles and uni darkrooms, but now almost have my own set up.

So my question - my current favourite film is FP4, but I've I've been thining I'd like to experiemtn with some slow film, and I've come across ADOX CMS 20. I'= admit I've been a bit wowed by technical claims, but I can't see the harm in trying a few rolls. I'll buy their recommended developer etc.. But will my camera/lens combo do the film justice?

My bodies are Nikon FM/FM2/FE, and mostly (like almost always) shoot with a Nikkor 28mm f2.8 AIS and 85mm F2 AIS. Occasionally use the 50mm f1.8 AIS indoors, and very occasionally the 200mm f4 AI.

Will these lenses be able to exract enough detail to justify this film? If not are there any Nikon f-mount lenses that would?

I matters not the equiptment, or the film--the only thing that matters is the operator. That being said---Set your inner eye on soft focus, and shoot to satisfy your vision!

I agree with ralnphot when you get down to it, it is the guy behind the camera. You have good equipment, just fine tune your skills.

Thanks guys - wasn't really looking to buy more equipment... OK, so will keep reading/fine tuning (my guess is you do that forever?). One thing though - what do you mean by setting your inner eye to soft focus?

Sometimes, people are unable to answer the question that is posed.

On a technical level, the Nikkor lenses that you own possess enough resolving power to handle the CMS20 film.

Back in the day, I shot a mix of high-, medium- and slow-speed film and always found the Nikkor lenses up to the task.

You won't be disappointed, as long as you do your part.

It merely means to follow your thoughts, dreams, and never be afraid to stand for them. Always experiment with your gear, always ask "what if" and above TAKE NOTES!!!!!!! because, if you're like me, your recollections will be hazy at best. I've been carrying note pads for over 45 years. Now--- get out there and burn some film!

Yes, they will extract much more detail with CMS20.
Even with good medium range zooms the higher resolution is clearly visible. And the nearly invisible grain is independent from the lens.

Hi,

I have used CMS 20, with nikkor 50mm/1.8 AF D, it was perfect. Grain was so small that I had problem to find it with grain finder while making prints 20x30cm.

It is not possible to see how good it is on cheap scan, but here are some examples:
