Nikkor autofocus lenses

Hi everyone,

I am primarily a medium format shooter but I sometimes use 35mm for quick shooting/snapshots/etc. However my Nikon FM2/FE2 and manual lenses are not appreciably quicker than some of my medium format gear for my purposes, so I don't end up using them very much. I want something that will let me work even faster, so I have decided to try 35mm autofocus. I bought an F100 body and now need an autofocus lens or two. Just looking for recommendations on some nice autofocus primes - is the 35/2 AF-D probably my best bet in a medium wide prime? Is there a good 28mm option? and how much do these generally go for on the used market?

The 35mm/2 AF-D is basically the same lens as the original but with the D technology added, a very good lens indeed. The 85mm 1.8 AF is a decent lens, there's a 50mm/1.8 AF that's quite good, there's a 20mm/2.8 AF that is also quite good, also a 28mm/2,.8 that was extremely popular, but it's hard to recommend anything because you were not specific with your needs.

Above is what you posted, and from what I read, it didn't tell me a lot about your needs. "Just looking for recommendations on some nice autofocus primes"?

I posted some suggestions covering a decent range. I was simply trying to be helpful, take it for what it's worth.

This 28mm/2.8 is on eBay, personally i would hold out for a flawless or near flawless copy. They are out there and the price should be reasonable.

both, the 35 and he 50mm focal length are available as AF lenses but, I'd get them 'new' because,You can't them probably for less than $500 and, You never know what you get used.Also, consider small zoomSuch as a35-70(veryeconomical);They are optically inferior but light an handy. the above mentioned, you could leave on the camera and never take it off, making for a small, light and always ready- to-go package.

If you want speed, use a 28mm without using autofocus. The DOF of a 28mm should cover any of those quick shooting situations and be immediate. With autofocus, you're waiting for the camera to focus - might be a very short time, might be a second or so.
