Hi! i'm looking for a nikon 85mm f2 or f1.4 MF, it has to have the glass pristine, it doesn't bother me if it is not pretty outside.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I kinda doubt Ken actually tried either lens.

Bjørn Rørslett says that the 1.8 is better than the 2. My experience mirrors his experience, as well.

Ken Rockwell is much keener on the 85/2 vs the older 1.8:

I struggle with Rockwell's logic:
"...when shooting on 35mm, this lens is unbeaten. Even if some other 85mm lenses are a little better "
How can something be unbeaten, even though " other 85mm lenses are a little better "? Surely the latter contradicts the former?
As such, I don't take his reviews too seriously.
Don't discount the Zeiss. I've used both a lot and the Zeiss is beautiful.

I don't know....when you include the first part of that sentence it's meaning is more clear:
"While the newer 85mm f/1.8 AF-D and 85mm f/1.8 G are slightly better optically, they are bigger and made of plastic, and when shooting on 35mm, this lens is unbeaten. Even if some other 85mm lenses are a little better..."
