I saw this on Zite yesterday. Neat shots. Strangely the posing just doesn't do it for me but the technical work and results are undeniably impressive.

I'm waiting for the final book - the Compilation of all three "On this Earth /a shadow falls/ across the ravaged land" ... And I will GRAB IT! On another note, my copy of Mitch Dobrowner's "Storms" has shipped from Amazon today. Excited about that one.

I saw Nick Brandt's exhibit 'On This Earth, a Shadow Falls' at the Fotografiska Museet in Stockholm, Sweden, beginning of last year.
It was a fantastic show, and I admire his work greatly. He uses focal lengths closer to normal often, which means he had to get physically close a lot of the time. Very impressive.

This new work looks very interesting, and ponders lots of questions. The pictures are so stark and powerful. Very moving.

Sure interesting, though deliberating posing the subjects takes the edge off for me. But ya still gotta admire the persistence of anyone working
in that kind of heat and corrosive conditions.

I received my signed copy of "Across the Ravaged Land" about ten days ago and can happily report that it is an outstanding volume and beautifully printed. It certainly demonstrates Brandt's passion for his subjects and meticulous attention to detail that no doubt required very many hours of hard work. His comments about using film vs digital (incidentally he used a 60 megapixel Hasselblad side by side with the Pentax and found the digital images to be too perfect) confirmed the emotion and feeling he has for his subjects. It is a worthwhile addition to my library.

Received my copy of "Across the Ravaged Land" and the background landscape for most of the pictures truly looks ravaged. The printing is far superior to the 1st. The images, especially the portraits, are incredible. Well worth the very modest price.
