Newbie --- Voigtlander Bessa-46

It doesn't matter. A I remember, the Baby Bessa window is in the center, yes? If so, it is for 6x6 numbering on the backing paper, not 6x4.5. Once the first frame is aligned it is all up to the internal frame spacing.

The camera takes 120 film. Lens is probably a Voigtar, which is fine. The little label on the front nearly always falls off on these. Neat little cameras, very small, stopped down they take sharp as heck photos. If the camera is working properly, you shouldn't have to worry about lining up the numbers on the film in the red windows on the back. There is an auto stop feature, and it should automatically stop when you're winding on to the next frame, once you set it at the #1. A manual is nice to get that sorted out, but you can figure it out by playing w/ the camera probably.

i bought film today. I expected the camera to use 120 film but inside the camera someone had hand-written "620"....... (or was it 640)........ anyway, the only stuff they had was 120 and it seemed to go in and wind-on ok. does anyone know the difference in these films and what the bessa 46 would in fact use?

Most folding Voigtlanders will use either 620 or 120 film. The little key thingy in the camera is two-step and spring-loaded so it can use either kind.

A very clever bit of engineering that every other camera maker on the planet could have done easily, at little cost, but chose to be butt-heads.

So your roll of 120 should work fine.

Yeah I figured most out. But it also came with a manual. I can read german ok, but not great.

No, this body will not shoot 6x6. They are simply using the number as a starting It may even have been that the numbers for 6x4.5 weren't put on film at that time. Many cameras use a double window system using the 6x9 numbers- wind a number to the first window, then wind until the same number fits in the second window.

I imagine that the lens would cover 6x6 if oyu moved it to the proper body.
