New York pictures taken on Kodachrome from 1940's.

Here is a link I found of some pictures taken by a amature photographer of NY in 1940-42. They were taken on Kodachrome. I'm not sure this is the right place to post this link, but if not please repost it. Thanks. Ric.

Those were the days. Back then, people shot film, men wore hats and we had lead in our gas. I wasn't around then, so I'm just being romantic about the 40s. Thanks for the link. Really enjoyed it!

Glad you liked the pics.

It is always nice when members write back to say they liked the pics. The thing is that those pics are 70 years old. The color is not as sharp as if they were taken today, that could be due to improvement is todays films, but being slides they are in a format that can be viewed today with a scanner or a slide projector. I hope someday people will be seeing digital pictures that are 70 years old and that their computer has a CD drive. By then these pictures will be 140 years old and all you will need to view them is a light table. Even if you have switched to that other medium, a few slides of the family won't hurt. Ric.

Yet another reason film is king.
70 years down we're still able to look at the pictures in today's file formats.

Wonder if today's d*** images will be readable 20 years from now.

.. i cant say i miss kodakchrome because I never shoot it... but nice pictures and can only agree with the charm of the images.

and I also love McSorley's Old Ale House, every visit to NY i always go there, love the place.

THanks that was neat... I passed it on to a few of my colleagues.
I was just given some images a pro shot of Duke Ellington visiting the local university, and images on 8x10 glass plates of local things, I like these windows into time.
That being said, as long as there is electrical power, I am not worried about jpegs, or Tiffs being unreadable.

In case light tables or electricity will no longer be available, sun light will be enough to make a trip back in time.
