The Wanderlust 4x5 camera just launched on Kickstarter today. It's a very cool simple lightweight 4x5 camera that uses a 90mm (or 65mm) lens or a pinhole. No connection to this, I just think it's a cool project.

If you search Kickstarter under "wanderlust" it'll pop up a link to "travelwide". It's the same thing, one is the company name, one is the camera name. You'll need to have an Amazon account to use this.

No relation to the developers, but I'm already in for the 90mm version.

I read the thing about Fuji re-starting Velvia in 4x5 sheets, and was thinking the other day about buying a LF camera to celebrate (because so far i've only gone as far as MF).
Hell, for $100, I'm in.

*wanders off to fleabay to nab a lens before they're all gone*

How many of us need another camera? This one looks like pure fun.

@Dr. Croubie--sounds like you're off to a great start. I saw the post about Velvia and may need to buy a few boxes myself.

Have you factored in the additional $$ for the centre filter you'll need if shooting Velvia?

Why? Vignetting is fun!

Meanwhile, I love how in the shot showing the viewfinder and lightmeter on top, the viewfinder is the Voigtlander 21mm. How convenient, I can take my Bessa L and 21mm Skopar and shoot both cameras with the same finder...

The main upside of this to me is it will get more people to buy 4x5 film. I think there are better solutions to point-and-shoot 4x5s, even at the same price level. It might be hard to beat their light weight, though. 660g or whatever is pretty light.

I think a $100 price point is right for me.

To me the greatest design feature is its name. I love that.

What a FUN looking camera! If I'd known about this a couple weeks ago I would have bought it instead of a Cambo from craigslist.

Dr Croubie, the thing on top is a Russian made accessory rangefinder. He is using it to find the distance and then setting it on the focus scale.

Yeah, I'm in too. Sure hope they make their goal. Looks like at this time they need about 300 more people to sign on for $99 each.

Yep, I'm in too now.
I was always going to go in, was more a matter of deciding between the 90 and 65. Went for the 65 in the end, even if lenses are a bit rarer and more expensive (and probably will need a centre filter).
At least I can do Pinholes for a while if I don't get a lens before then.
On the plus side I don't have to focus, I can reuse my 21mm Voigtlander viewfinder for framing, maybe even just reuse my Bessa L and 21mm Skopar for a light-meter.

$55k out of $75k already, and it's only been up a week with 3 to go. This looks popular enough that it'll be made, hooray!

I'm in, too, even though I've never in my life shot large format.

I already backed them and have my order in. Fortunately, I also already have a 90mm Angulon plus the usual LF paraphernalia of holders etc. too. I should be ready to go when I get it. Very cool project!

The pledges have really slowed down, so unless we step things up by spreading the word, the project is in jeopardy. Over 500 large format cameras in less than a week is incredible. If you're on the fence, this is the time to jump in. This should make a killer pinhole camera, too.

In their latest update they've indicated that if they hit $85K they'll be able to include some extra bits:

  • The awesome Pinhole Cap we described in our last update. It has an integrated hood, cap and is reversible for both Copal 0 and 00.
  • A simple flat spanner wrench for attaching/removing lenses and the spring back. Oh, and it's also a bottle opener!

I'll be happy if they just hit the initial goal though.

started to look into it but lack of info on Kickstarter pages in regards to pledging/paying (if it's there it either well hidden or so bloody obvious I'm missing it!) deminished my interest...

What information did you have a hard time finding? US funds are processed through Amazon, outside the US it's via credit card. Funds are not charged unless the project attains its pre-determined goal within the allotted timeframe.

My sampling of the eBay lens market is telling me there are going to be a lot of frustrated early adopters.
