New TV show about photographers and "characters"

I also see two 8x10's being used.

Hand held Mamiya RZ67; that's quite the arm workout. Long lead times, and equipment preferences, especially for anyone long in a creative profession, means choosing tools one is comfortable using, and not having impossible deadlines to meet. Sure, film cameras are still very viable in the working world of professional photographers, though only when turn-around speed is not the first driver of equipment.

That's refreshing. Lots of film cameras. Ahhhhhh.

As far as I'm concerned photography isn't meant to be instant...unless it's polaroid (excuse me, fuji instant packfilm), and that's just for a change of view every once and a while.

It certainly looks like an interesting show, and I still can't believe how big an RZ67 really is! It makes me glad I went for a Hasselblad instead.

I'll be tuning in for sure.

There's the old yarn about when the RB was first introduced in the US -- the camera was made specifically for the studio, but the first thing that photographers wanted was a handle to hand hold it, and the Mamiya people were stunned that anyone would even think of hand holding it.

this looks like a cool show-- any ideas on when it's going to be on?

In the late Sixties there was a customer in the store where I worked who shot weddings with a RB67 and a PRISM finder and a Matador 500 strobe.
He was over 6 ft and had the build to carry all the above.
I'll be looking forward to see the show.

i am not sure this a show rather than a series of "ads" that are made to define USA tv as a place for characters.

they run all sorts of interesting commerical for their broadcasting stations all based on the same idea.

I'm not sure that this is actually a new show. The USA Network's recent advertising campaign uses the slogan "Characters Welcome" to market their prime time content. I believe that what we've been actually watching is behind-the-scenes video of the various photo shoots of people that they have cast as "characters" for their campaign. In other words, these were actual professional photographers shooting for billboards, subway ads, etc.

from what I read on the ad the people taking pictures are not actors but photographs like Mary Ellen Mark. I am glad to see so many cameras and at least one a twin lens medium format. Lots of fun.

Rather than a show it seems to be an exhibition and book. There's sections referring to ex. dates and the book itself.

Do they not have a magnifyer to aid in focusing? When useing the magnifyer I offten do the same thing. To me its faster as I can focus better and still see the entire frame to compose the shot.

I have my eye shoved into the top of my WLF finders when useing the magnifyer. But then I don't own a Rollie or a Hasselblad, just a couple Mamiyas and a Yashica.
