A Nikon 90s is coming to me soon.
I have an AF 50mm 1.8 from an odd photo bag trade, and a few AI lenses usually going with my FM

Do I live with what I have, or should I push for another all-around AF lens?

I am also new to film AF cameras (of that era), so there may be a learning curve?

I'd consider a short zoom, like the Nikkor 28-70 or 28-105 AF-D. They're affordable. Happy with mine.

Depending on what you like to shoot, a short zoom is always good, if shoot sports or wildlife a longer zoom or a fast prime.

Agreed on short zoom versatility, for my purpose, and for now.
I have an AI one.

The lens designations get a bit confusing, I need to learn them.
The original N90s manual has a lens guide for what was current at the time, and there is a Ken Rockwell write-up, which I believe has newer lenses covered.

The 28/105afd Is a cracking lens. I had one for years but sold it for a 24/120 because I needed the greater zoom range. The 28/120 will be no good on the F90 because there is no aperture ring

Another vote for the AF 28-105. If you don't need the speed, this lens is sharp at all focal lengths. You don't want to get horizontal lines near the top or bottom edges at 28mm, but that's pretty much gone by 35mm. I shot all sorts of lenses on my n90s. Leica R 90's w/ an adapter, old AI'd lenses, you name it. As far as I know, only the non AI lenses can't be used, but even they can be used if they're AI'd. The meter on these cameras is on the money 99.9% of the time.
