Great to see a B&H guy on the forum. I wanted to get 100-foot rolls of both the new and old versions. Would it be possible to hold an old 100 foot roll (assuming you still have them) and then ship a roll of each once you run out of 100-footers?

I just ordered 3 Pro Pacs of the new TMY-2 120 from B&H. They were very helpful. Unfortunately they don't have stock of the new TMY-2 in 135 yet.

According to Kodak's data sheet on the film, TMY-2 has a granularity rating of 11 whereas TMX has a rating 10. This should be a great film for 120 shooters.

Update:
B&H has updated new TMY product SKUs in our point-of-sale database and these updates should port to our web site over the weekend. I am not sure of the exact timing. Even after the SKUs are ported to the web, you may not see them until we have a firm notion of Kodak's delivery schedule. Thanks to all for your patience.

And now for a correction to the correction.

When Kodak updated F-4016 in October 2007 it apparently didn't incorporate information on new TMY. That's contained in F-4043, also dated October 2007.

Probably because old TMY is still available. In any case, granularity of new TMY is 10, an improvement over old TMY's 11. All these RMS granularity numbers are specified for development in undiluted D-76.

On the 23rd of Janurary I received 3 Pro packs of TMAX 400 120 from B&H Photo. When I place the order I discussed at length with the B&H order taker that I only wanted to receive the new TMAX 400 120. He assured me that was what I would get.

Guess what I realized today that it's the old product. I called B&H and the only remedy they offered was to allow me to return it and that they had no new TMAX 400 in stock.

Needless to say I was pissed.

Guess I'll wait it out and order else where. I kept the film since returning would be a major hassle for the small quantity involved. So those of you thinking about ordering the new TMY from B&H might think again.

That happened to me to the tune of 50 rolls. I sent it back and they refunded my money right away with an apology sent to me by Henry. I suppose you might have film that I once had in my possession. The good news is that the old is just as good as the new.

I'm familiar with the old, I just want to get familiar with the new!

Just a few minutes ago a friend e-mailed me a drum scan of a 35 mm neg made on the new TMAX 400 developed in TMAX RS at the rcommended Kodak time/temp.

The grain signature was quite impressive and details were finely rendered. The image was a touch contrasty but this was the first roll of the new stuff he has developed so he will fine tune the processing time.

Anyway I was impressed with what I saw. The exposures were made with a Leica Summilux 50 mm f/1.4, EI of 400.

We have Kodak TMY 35mm 100' and I presume it's the "old" stuff. If I was you I'd buy that now and stash it in the freezer until the new stuff is available. There's really no way to hold one roll for one customer and guarantee it's available weeks later.

Update: We _do_ have the new stuff in stock. I've seen it in our retail store where you can easily tell one from the other by the packaging. As I said earlier, the problem is that Kodak retained the same product codes and bar codes so our warehouse computer systems can't distinguish old from new. This plays havoc with our phone order dept & web because we cannot make different product codes when the warehouse can't divide them by bar codes. We work on bar code scans to ensure accuracy in our warehouses and we're working on a solution for this.

As of today, B&H lists the old TMY as "out of stock" and the new TMY as "not yet available" on its website.

I am waiting as well. So far TMY-2 120 is just a rumor.

I bought a BRICK of 120 TMY-2 from Freestyle (I bought everything they had). Shot 6 rolls at Joshua Tree, put a Stouffer Step Wedge on another roll. I'll be developing it all semi-stand in Pyrocat-MC next week.

I finally found the new TMY-2 in 35mm format at my local photo store but no 120 yet. I shot it with my old Pentax ES and 100mm Macro Takumar. It is very sharp! I blew this photo up to 11x14 and the feathers on this bird are really sharp.

My Deveolper was D76 @ 75degrees processed in a Jobo ATL 1500 for 5mins.

This morning, Feb. 23, the Freestyle website showed the “New Improved Emulsion!” TMY 400 available in 35mm / 36 exp., with a warning that inventory was low and one should call first.

So I called the online sales department and was told they had 6 rolls left.

As I was ordering all 6 rolls, giving the nice sales rep my info, the 6 rolls vanished from her computer screen . . . they were sold right from under us while we were on the phone.

Fortunately, the nice sales rep went over to check the retail store and said they have 25 or so rolls there; so I was able to order my 6 rolls after all.

It seems like there’s a lot of pent up demand out there for this new film.

How do you know if you have the newer TMY 400 or one of the older ones? I just picked up 2 rolls from Freestyle's retail store yesterday, but didn't see this thread until today. I'm new to the film world and have never shot the "older" TMAX before, but I'm just curious to see if I have the older or newer film.

Cool! I got 2 rolls of the newer TMY 400. I've only used Ilford XP2 Super and Acros 100. I still have a few rolls of HP5 to try out as well as the new TMY.
