At the restaurant in Heraklion Crete, I was carrying the Hasselblad 903 SWC. The waiter asked it I was shooting medium format. I said yes. He said he has three MF cameras, a Mamiya TLR and two others. He asked if I was shooting Portra 400. I said yes. He said that he paid about 100 euros for ten rolls of Portra 400. I told him about APUG and showed him the web page on my iPhone.
Well, like Keith Richards said, "There will always be good looking guys with haircuts.".

BTW, I have my Father's AsahiFlex IIa and (drum roll,please!) his Takumar 83mm f1.9 short tele! As you can see, my Father was a man of exquisite taste and discernment. Now for an adapter from 37mm to 42mm, if one exists. Gotta get the AsahiFlex to Eric for his healing hands.

I was asked on a recent short break to Lindisfarne, Holy island, (See footnote if interested) and was asked the pertinent question. I was mighty impressed, why, because I was shooting the H1 that day. Long conversation ensued, took two frames of the enquirer and his wife on their Canon digital something or other with the castle in the background, he couldn't believe I didn't look at the screen, I was tempted to say "just print both frames" but restrained myself.

In 635AD Saint Aidan came from Iona and chose to found his monastery on The Holy Island of Lindisfarne. The path from the island to the mainland is flooded twice a day by tides.
Lindisfarne and in particular the castle is the setting of the Roman Polanski film Cul-de-Sac (1966).
The Castle, as you see from the scaffolding, is under renovation.

Last year, taking photos on the beach in Vik, Iceland with my 503 CX. A North American guy walked past, noticed the camera, and gave me a look which is hard to describe. I imagine it's the sort of look that Apollo astronauts were used to seeing. He then gave me a couple a claps, nodded conspiratorially and walked off looking like he had just met his favourite movie star.
I was quite taken aback, but very amused!

Today in Ioa, Santorini [Thera] Greece I was asked as I was putting the SWC in my camera bag and taking out the 503 CX.
My Spotmatic F and a 50 mm f1.8 just arrived. Happily the lens will accomodate the full aperture metering of the F. I'd never handled a M 42 Pentax before; the camera certainly feels good. Fine fit and finish, my example has only a few small scuffs on the baseplate. Heavy, all metal and glass, as a proper camera should be.
About the only improvement might be a split image to go with the microprism screen. Now for a WA and a tele. I already have a Tamron Adaptamatic f3.5 200mm from my Praktica LTL days, so let the fun begin!

Now, today in Fira while looking at the caldera and the shops I was approached and the man said "that [the Hasselblad 903 SWC, for bdial's clarification] is a beautiful camera." Not an ITAH, but a nice comment.

Mid afternoon, I was sitting on a wall along the long climb to Fira using my 503 CX with the 80mm lens and a white hair Frenchman sat next to me and said, "I see that you are shooting 6x6, and it looks like a Hasselblad." He still shoots film but now rather use his memory to recall scenes. He said that the photographs spend too much of their time in boxes.

Today my light meter battery went bad. I could either take a long arduous walk back up a steep hill to the hotel or find a photo shop in Chora Mykonos. I was directed to Photo Express 17, Fl. Zouganeli Street, Chora Mykonos +30 22890 26202, Dead Link Removed. The owner greeted me and I showed him the battery that I needed. He said that he did not have that battery, however since I was shooting film he said he had something else to give me. He gave me six rolls of fresh Kodak Portra 400 120 film. He said that he does not get people buying 120 film so he said that I should use them to photograph his island and the rest of the country. He also said that he enjoyed seeing someone using a Hasselblad. He showed me a wide selection of 35mm and instant film.
Then about ten minutes later a man who was using a digital camera stopped me and said that he thought that is was great that I was shooting film and ITAH?
Back at the hotel, I loaded a spare battery and the light meter is working again. I used Sunny 16 for a while.

That's a good thing. It's great to be stealthy, especially if street shooting.
I bought a Contax 139 brand new back in the 80's. I shot it for many years and no one knew what it was. I took the camera with expensive 180mm Zeiss lens to the old Busch Stadium for a Cardinals game and let my 13 or 14 year old step son (he's now late 30's) walk around with it all over the ballpark. No one really noticed him.
Was asked today, outside the building where I work, while setting up a Mamiya TLR to shoot the Eclipse.
