If you enjoy compensating for parallax and not being able to line up polarizer filters with a TLR, that just leaves more equipment for me to buy.

Exactly! Horses for courses. I don't shoot close enough for parallax to bother me; I haven't used a polarizer in decades. But darn, mirror lag and mirror blackout just don't work for my shooting.

Hey, since I am reducing the demand for Hasselblad items, maybe you can send me a small commission for the lower costs I help you achieve?! Anyway, I will be certain to answer yes to anyone who asks me if I am using a Hasselblad. We will make 'Hasselblad' the generic term for any camera that doesn't look like a smartphone or a DSLR.

Never had the ITAH query but one lovely morning while I was crouched over my Pentax 645n, 120 macro mounted, right angle finder mounted, cable release at the ready, the whole shebang on a focus rack mounted to my low down Manfrotto as I stalked a lovely wild violet my neighbor sang out "Mighty fancy camera, George! Is it a Nikon?" I attempted to explain to her that it was a PENTAX, that Nikon had never made a camera anything like it (to my knowledge) but she was unimpressed. I was truly a voice "crying in the wilderness...."

Well, she probably wouldn't be impressed. She and her husband seem to feel that they are the arbiters of all yards, etc, in our neighborhood. They are truly PITAs, if you'll pardon the language.

As you might have gathered I am a Pentaxian, with cameras ranging from my Father's AsahiFlex IIa, the one with slow speeds on the front panel, through the KX, the MX, the ME Super, the K 1000, the LX, the digital K 10d, and the digital K 5. Not to mention a full Pentax 110 SLR kit. I fear that I am becoming a Collector, as I also have a Nikon S2, a Nikonos, a Kiev 4, a Bronica S2a, a Bronica ETRSi, a YashicaMat, an Ikoflex. Good lord, I almost forgot the Contessa 35, the Vitessa L, the Retina IIIc, the Konica IIIa... Someone stop me before I buy again. In my defense, all of these work, save the AsahiFlex. Gotta get it fixed!

As Mike of Wings Camera, my Enabler says, "Photography can be an expensive hobby! But...its cheaper than car collecting, and far cheaper and much safer than having a mistress!" Wise man, Brother Mike.

Alas, my sin of omission! I must haste to remedy this gap in my GAS! (Gear Accquisition Syndrome) I do have a Practika LTL 42mm and a really nice Tamron 200mm f3.5 in 42mm enabled by Tamron's first interchangeable mount system. But the Practica, as good as it is - really - hardly substitues for a Spotty.

There is a clean-looking Honeywell Spotmatic IIa on the ePrey being sold by SeattleGoodwill. And with a 50mm 1.8 SMC lens (the incredibly good 50 of that era).

I have a buddy who is in his 60's. He has an extensive camera collection (Hasselblad, Rolleiflex, Contax, Leica, etc.) but to this day he refuses to own a Nikon. He has nothing against the cameras but he still remembers the Nikon snobs of years ago. I guess they haven't all died out yet.

Oh, one of his favorite cameras is his beloved Pentax 6x7.

An excellent camera (i own one), just be aware sometimes it shows prism desilvering. Which is easily repairable (by swapping the prism with one from another Spotmatic.)

I used to sell brand new 35mm cameras in the 1980's. When digital came along I got into buying and selling used medium format and large format film cameras. I've sold a ton of camera equipment on Ebay. I tested items before I sold them so I've shot a lot of different cameras.

I really don't understand the whole fanboy thing. Every camera has it's advantages and disadvantages.

About 15 years ago I was out taking my morning walk around a lake. Carrying my RZ, wlf, 110mm,and a grip big rubber hood. Beautiful frosty fall morning. I came into our plant the security guard came out, thought I was with a tv news crew. E was ready to confiscate the camera. I just blew him off and told him that I was an engineer just taking some photos.
He didn't ask me is that a Hasselblad? He wasn't much of a security guard either.
I need to buy a 503 cw, I had a 501c 2 lens, 2 backs, prism and wlf mint I got for1100 bucks. I sold it because I thought I had too many cameras.

That's a good question. Most guys will say no. Most of their wives will say yes.

All kidding aside, a buddy of mine and I discussed this. We came to a conclusion. The problem with owning and using a lot of cameras is that you are not as familiar with each of them as you should be. It's great to pick up a camera and it just feels like an extension of yourself. If you shoot too many cameras then they don't feel as comfortable as they should feel. Just my 2 cents.

I think you're on to something there, Alan. Particularly if shooting any motion/action, you can't take time to think - needs to be automatic. In another sport it was put - beware the man w/ only one gun - he probably knows how to use it.

The only time anybody pointed out my Hassy was long ago while visiting a botanical garden with my extremely unreliable 1000F (Look dear, he's using a Hasselblad!). From what I understand Hasselblad's original focal plane shutter was designed and manufactured by a Swedish watchmaker who didn't understand the stress that shutters experienced. Hence, the move to the Hassy C. Hasselblad succeeded because of compact easy-to-hold design and if this is important to a photographer then it is better than the othe slr my cameras.
However, I do get queries from passersby when using my Rollei 2.8 F, probably because it resembles digital least of all.

Of course you are correct. I have been shooting Bronica SQAI for the last few years, I had to look at the instructions to use the rz. If I was rich, I would have a room full

Oh, I'm fine with you, Sirius. I know when you are kidding. I'm not talking about people who are joking around. I'm talking about the haters.

My daughter used to pitch Fastpitch Softball and took weekly pitching lessons year round. I was on a local forum trying to help someone when fanboys attacked me because they preferred some other instructor. Then some other fanboy would say someone else is the best. I finally told them all that if they would watch the top college pitchers they would see that they come from all over the country and don't use any of our local instructors. There is no best instructor for every girl. You find one that works with your daughter.

The same applies to cameras.
