The other "problem" with SS caps is the lid over the fill opening. The small cap will sometimes fit so tightly that I have had to use a screwdriver or coin or key to pop the little lid off, so I could pour out the chemicals. I noticed on some later SS tanks that they spot welded a lift tap onto the small cap, so one could pull the cap off.
As for heat transfer, SS vs plastic, that is a + for SS. You can use a water bath to hold/stabilize the temp in the tank. The SS tank will transfer heat much better than a plastic tank. Then again the plastic tank users would say that they do not need to use a water bath, because of the insulating properties of plastic.
