George,

It is simple. He has started this site becasue he wants to. Shen Hao owners will be able to chat in broken chinese and discuss deviations from the Ebony blueprints....or how to fix certain things.....or constraints....specific accessories....anything they like, which would probably be too irrelevant for a general forum and get lost amongst the 'noise'.
............
Feel free to set up a site on your collection of empty film cassettes if you want to! There's no such thing as overkill on the internet!

Tom:smile:

Nothing beats unlightning answers! Why does SH cameras need their own forum? The Shen Hao cameras are like Hasselblads, Nikons. They don't have a manual etc... He started it because he wants to. After some more reflection from the same author - because discussions about SH cameras would get lost on general forums in "noise".
Hmm. What is so special on the SH cameras that it would be lost in noise while discussions about Phillips, Toyo, Arca-Swiss, Wista, Canham and all other types are not lost in the noise on these forums? "There is no such thing as overkill on the internet". Nothing beats unlightning answers. I'm waiting for some more of them.

George,
If you don't have anything constructive to say maybe you shouldn't say anything

OK. You are free to not visit the forum...

....but...but...but....that's not the point, I shouldn't need not to visit the website.....

There are many sensible, logical and intelligent responses to G's 'view', but somehow I suspect that this would get even more pointless than it already is. What the heck is an unlightning response? Methinks someone might be from the Mr M.S school of thinking....

I just got a Shen-Hao 6x17 back. See the galley for my first shot with it.

It seems pretty cool. It is adjustable for 6x17, 6x12, or 6x9. It comes with a ground glass back already marked for those sizes, and is equiped with a bellows hood for the glass. It's light weight, well constructed, and pretty sraight forward in its operation. I'll mostly be doing Pt/Pd with it for a while, but I think I should have access to a 5x7 enlarger soon.

If you have any questions about it, just ask.

I fully agree with you - maybe if you don't have anything constructive to say you shouldn't say anything?

Maybe there are. Surely not from you. At least so far. Will you try harder?? Don't let me wait.

George, there are other forums for this sort of approach. APUG is about friendliness and altruism, not baiting and agrivating. I consider it likely that I speak on behalf of other users when I respectfully ask that you think about how you are behaving and consider that it may just be inappropriate and neither in the spirit of this forum nor acceptable anywhere. Ignore this and you'll just get yourself kicked off sooner or later. However, it would be better for everyone for you to chill out, stay, and enjoy the forum!

Great! Now, if you really believe what you say, show it.

Did you say "kicked off"? Was it the friendliness you were speaking about? Or will you show it later..?

I'm fine. Do you need to chill out after the kicking exercise?

Sorry I screwed up the quote with my answers in it... Anyway, may I use this occasion to ask you again (as you seem to know more about it than you say) - what is so special about the SH cameras that discussions about it would be lost in "noise" on other LF forums when discussions about other LF cameras do not get lost there?

GOOD GRIEF! (to quote the famous US philosopher)

Tell Me Why!
I don't like SH Forums.
Tell Me Why!
I don't like SH foo-oo-rums.
Tell Me Why!
I don't like SH for-ums,
I wanna shoo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oot,
The whole lot down....

(Sung to the tune of "I Don't Like Mondays" by Bob Geldoff (mmmm - may be lost on USians as I think it was banned over there - ho hum)...

Cheers, Bob.

P.S. My 4x5 SH has serial 070404 - bought from Badger Graphic in the US summer 2004 (at least, I think there was a summer in the UK in 2004 - can't say I noticed a massive change between spring & autumn - now 2003, that was a summer...)

Hey,
I don't know where they banned it in the US, because around here (California) it was certainly played on the radio.

Well,
Not likely as that was/is California. It seems more likely that some radio stations just refused to give it airplay. Although that seems in a way more symbolic than really a ban as the Boomtown Rats were never a staple of mainstream radio here. No slam meant to Bob, but I think Bob Geldof is probably better known (here anyway) for his charitable work than his musical career. Remember all those "concerts for a cause"

Yeah, the Rats were a bit of a flash in the pan really - 3 or 4 hits in a year or two then faded away... Geldof would probably have disappeared with them if he hadn't organised Band Aid etc...

As far as I know, he does not actually own a Shen Hao...

I only remember the guy playing "Pink" in Pink Floyd's "The Wall". The rest of his career is non-important to me...

Come on he's just trying to draw attention to the website. This was a dead thread before he starting stamping his feet. Imagine how many people have found out about the Shen-Hao forum because of him.
