Finally had enough with the old one. Went a picked up a HP Scanjet 4600 series scanner. Ok I actually was looking for a new printer, but the one I wanted was $500. 
It was the only one there that accepted paper larger than 8.5x11".
It also has software that actually works!
So now I've flooded the gallery with some poor scans of questionable prints.
Don't worry, once the thrill of "the new toy" wears off, I'll calm down some.
