just got a bottle of rodinal from freestyle. It's different from the one I got from them back to last nov(2006). it didn't come with the agfa red box. the color of the liquid seems to be lighter in color. On the bottle it says a&o imaging solutions.

The sales person told me it is a new version of rodinal and it is the same as the old one, except the color is lighter....

any clue? anyone used it and found any differences? All the dev times still apply? Thanks.

It's ok. The color means that it's fresh, and it will become darker after a while.

Exactly. Starts out pretty light, ends up dark, doesn't seem to loose a step though.

Rodinal ages like a fine wine.

A&O bought the chemistry plant in the German Vaihingen from the insolvent AgfaPhoto.
They restarted production of the whole Agfa process chemistry range and are licensed by Agfa to brand the chemistry as Agfa.
Aside from that they offer custom synthesis, especially for pharmaceutics.

Yep, and when you write "I have a Rodinal bottle from (insert year here). The liquid is dark as coffee, but still works great", you should always add this smiley:

Rodinal working solution turns purple during development. I wondered if the degree of change from white to purple can be used to determine how far development has progressed (by taking a sample from the tank, using a pipette).
Has anyone ever practised this of heard about it?

This happens to me with Tri-X film only, not with other films that I have used (e.g. PanF, Efke 100, Fomapan, Neopan, ...)

With APX-100, Rodinal turns almost black when it is poured.

I like Rodinal as well as the next guy... but with APX-100, you should be using a fine Pyro developer, like W2D2+. You will be amazed at the levels of gray you get at the lower end of the zones.

I do use Rodinal on lots of different films, from Tri-X down to Pan-F. FOr some reason, APX-100 is just different.
