Really nice site and great images Derek. Well done!

Mark

I posted this over on the other site, but I wanted to compliment you here as well. You have some beautiful night-time images, there Derek!

Cheers,

very interesting concept with unending options.

Very nice photos. As for why we keep the lights on - beats me! I like the comfort of evening. I'll sit and read in my little pool of light with darkness all around. If you fly, you will find the earth always lit at night. I think it spoils the night, and certainly obscures the view of the skies, which I prefer. Ah, civilization.

Very very nice Portfolio, Derek. If any group of Photos screams Light, these are they. Your images are the answer to your own question. The light is beautiful! Look at the image with the old stone church (WE have lots of dark stone churches in Detroit). It is devoid of light and relatively ugly at night and most evenings(unless bathed in sunset light, storm light or the like). The Architects are using light to make their new buildings beautiful and welcoming for more hours of the day.(As well as saying "I am Here") And there's the perception of safety-either real or imagined. I have confidence that the demand for clean efficient energy will make it provided and available (there's obviously a market)-unless the government gets involved. If you need darkness-go to Cross Village, MI. They are preserving it there. Your website is a really nice clean, creative design, it and the photography within are wonderful. Keep us posted.

Thanks for all of your comments.

Alex, yes I have been busy on this one. It sort of has a life of it's own.

Ann, I still have two more images to make that I can think of but who knows how many more I will end up doing.

Bruce, I will never forget the night sky in Molokai Hawaii! Holy smokes, it was amazing seeing the true night sky with out any lights. (the whole island is run on a diesel generator)

Paul, very good point about older buildings being designed to use natural light more effectively. Something to consider.

D.

First class portfolio, Derek!
