Hi All,

I have installed some new share functionality in the forums. As seen here at the top of threads:

Clicking this will open sharing options:

This is a GREAT way for us to be seen outside of Photrio.com and draw in new members. Especially on facebook, twitter, email and linkedin. If you are enjoying a forum thread or have created your own thread, you can now easily share it with a wider audience.

If you have zero intention of using this option and would like to disable it, or change the location of the button it can be done in your preferences here (under Social Share Options): Dead Link Removed

I hope many find this useful and begin to regularly share some content.

Thanks,
Sean

The "Telegram.me" option sounds like it might resonate with some of the long time members:whistling:.
Thanks for making it easier to share via email - the only option I'm likely to make a lot of use of.

There is no option to disable it.
I thus chose the "sidebar" option as I hide the sidebar anyway. Saved the setting, logged out and in.
But the bar is still at the top.

Sorry, wrong setting in my admin. The option to disable is now there.

And why wouldn't you want to promote Photrio?

I am promoting Apug since 2007.
But so far I can count the times at my hand that I linked to a certain thread. And for such cut&paste of the page or even post URL is completely sufficient for me. Neither am I on Twitter, Facebook etc.
Also I still write letters by hand.
So why have a bar in sight I do not use?? And as Sean explicetely offered the setting to disable that bar...

Another issue is that I am living where English is not spoken as native language.
I know quite some people that cannot communicate in threads in English.

Also nearly all German and Dutch speaking members have left Apug meanwhile. That should be reason to think over. I repeatedly hinted at this.

No worries just wondering.

The only way I can get the "Share This Page" banner to move from the top of the thread is to remove it entirely.
FWIW, I have my sidebar on the right.

I have the sidebar on the left on my screen, but can not find that "Share this page" anywhere. Not that I would use it.

I suspect most people discover APUG/Photrio as a result of Google searches. That's how I found it.

Just an observation. It's not ruining my life. One thing is that (for me) it loads before the other content, so it calls attention to itself that way.
Strange, what OS and browser do you use? The page loads all at once for me on several systems.

Sean:
For those of us who would prefer to not have the "Share this Page" link so prominent, can a link to that functionality be added to the "Thread Tools" drop down menu?

I think it should be prominent -- at least insofar as you don't have to go looking for it (as you would if it were under the Thread Tools menu). If the idea is to advertise Photrio via social media outlets, then it makes sense that it's a one click function at the top of the page. My thing is I don't think the banner spanning the entire page is a good use of space. At that rate, you could just have direct links to the 15 or so different social media websites -- or maybe just the top 5 and a More... option.

Just some thoughts...

How about a button that just says "Share" that when clicked turns into a pull-down list of different sites (including an "Other" to allow anything not listed)? Perhaps check-boxes in the list for multiple sharing.

First thing I went to do I couldn’t figure out how...

How to share a post on one thread to another thread within Photrio- I half-expected to see a Photrio icon. Then it would also be great to have option to share thread... or specific post.

Aside of that new button you may,

-) copy&paste the URL of the thread from its first page

-) click at a the post-number of a certain post of interest and then copy&paste the upper URL given at that new window, which will lead the addressee to that very post, but still embeded within the very page of that thread

That's the way I've always done it. I can even figure out how to click the "link" button in the reply box of any social media forum to make fancy links if I want - but I'm an IT professional, so I have many of these esoteric skills that the general population apparently lacks, lol.
