i just got an email today from galaxy-paper.com
it is an announcement of a soon to be announced
kickstarter project to make a high speed direct positive paper

it doesn't seem their kickstarter is live yet, but will be very soon.

"Adjusted reversal process. User-friendly." and elsewhere they talk about "Since we use our original proprietary recipe, the developing solutions might have a little different chemicals combination than the regular developers." I would say that it's a high speed paper with some proprietary reversal procedure, I assume they'll ship the paper & chems together or something.

They might want to update their spiel about the demise of DP paper now that Harman are about to reintroduce their offering ...

It does sound as though this is a paper optimised for reversal processing rather than a direct positive paper, as Daire Quinlan says.

I'm sure there was a thread last year where someone was enthusing about possibly getting photobooth paper from eastern europe slit to normal sizes ... I can't find it now but I'm pretty sure the discussion was on similar lines to this KS.

Harman/Ilford has both RC and Fiber.

as far as i have read and was told by KODAK
rc materials are just as if not more archival than FB papers ..
i can understand that some people don't like rc cause, it looks plastic
i have grown fond of it over the years ...

PET : RoW naming of RC afaik. PolyEthylene I think is what it refers to.

The old stuff was only in FB (at least, whatever was left when I discovered it). I know there is a lot of hate for RC for whatever reason, but I love it, especially when I want something to mount on a wall and not mount wrapped around a basketball.

So this new paper is more of a reversal-optimised-with-special-chems than the HDPP which is reversal-using-regular-paper-dev?
I don't mind either, as long as it goes to completion like normal paper and isn't a bitch on timing like E6. If it can get lower contrast than HDPP, or even more pan than just-ortho-blue, I'd be very interested...

No, Harman's announcement was for FB only. I suspect the B&H listing for RC is in error.

RC basically means a paper with its paper-base coated with some resin. But practically it only is used to designate a paper coated with miniscule layers of Polyethylene (PE).

PET means Polyester. It is not used as a coating but as a base.

In this case to yield Cibachrome-like mirrorgloss. (Made by Ilford Imaging anyway.)

Aw, shucks! I do like the FB HDPP, but was also hoping for an RC version as well, mainly due to its quicker rinse and dry times, as this would make more practical a one-step street portrait project.

You could try some of the Imago stuff (if it's still available). Origins slightly unclear, but I believe it's the same emulsion as the Ilford DP (though I could be wrong) but on a weird plasticky base.

The emulsion of that Harman paper was toll-manufactured by Ilford Imaging. And also toll-coated by them in past, before coating was transfered to Harman.
It later was also toll-coated by Ilford Imaging onto their very own PET base.

Only a few special 35mm films were on a PET base.
Eg surveillance cameras that took a cine camera spool fill/load with exceptionally long length, as the pet base can be very thin allowing 48.8m of PET on normal 30.5m spool.
The CHS100 is on a PET base still I think.
The HP5+ 72 shots in normal cassette were on a PET base...
Etc.
There were others. PET is dimensionally stable, dries flat, and won't tear sprocket hole even when thin.
