New Petzval Lens for Nikon F and Canon EF

They say "They are built from brass and feature premium glass optics", so at least there should not be any plastic. But waiting one year more when backers will end up dropping this lens on a ebay is a good idea

That's exactly what I was thinking!

But I'm in. This Lomo Petzval Portrait Lens appears to have all the traits I’m looking for in a 35mm sized lens… an f2.2 aperture and perfectly round Waterhouse stops. I'm not so sure about that rack and pinion focusing, but the lens may be just the ticket.

Just buy a Leica 50 Summitar and you'll be in swirl city before you know it, if that's the place you wish to be. This sort of bokeh puts me on edge.

The close portrait of the white cat on that link looks photoshopped to death. Cats do not look like that.

The first comment on Vimeo was nice:

"Is it possible to have a few more details about the way you shoot that video like iso, shutter speed and aperture of the lens ? I'm bit scared because most of the footages looks extremely soft and dark (wich is very strange using a 5DMKIII and a f2 lens).On the good side, bokehs and DoF are beautifull but I'm really worried about sharpness and speed so far."

Petzval Project for medium format and 135 format

There is a new Kickstarter project: Dead Link Removed and (there was a url link here which no longer exists)
It's for a F3.8 120mm Petzval lens for medium format cameras with a Pentacon Six and Hasselblad compatible mount. With an adapter also usable on 135 format cameras.
It looks even more interesting to me than the Lomo lens, since it is also usable for medium format cameras. It's not mimicking an old brass lens, but (to me) this design looks even better for this type of cameras than the Lomo lens. What do you think?



Pentacon Six mount cameras, like:
- Kiev 88
- Praktisix
- Pentacon Six
- Exacta 66
- Kiev 60 ( or 6C)
- Kiev 88 CM (not older Kiev 88 for its older screw mount??)

Hasselblad mount for:
- 2000 series cameras
- 200 series cameras
- NOT: 500 series (due to missing shutter in body and lens??)

Also, different types of adapters are available from different manufacturers. They allow the use of P6 lenses on Mamiya 645, Pentax 645 and Contax 645 medium format cameras, Canon EF, Canon FD,Nikon F, Minolta AF, Minolta MD, Contax/Yashica, Pentax K, M42, and Leica R 35 mm cameras, as well as Lumix and Olympus micro 4/3 (m4/3), 4/3 system.

If you use a petzval lens intendend (inclusive all artefacts) for a larger format on a smaller format you will gain an image from the center of the image circle, that has less of those typical abberations.

Agreed!
But the examples of this lens aren't too bad. And it is designed for medium format in the first place.
