I picked up a "new" Pentax K1000 with a 50mm F/2 lens Friday evening at the Unclaimed Baggage store in Scottsboro, Alabama. I shot a roll through it just to get used to it and to make sure the mechanics worked properly. Overall, I'm impressed so far.
I used a handheld meter as my light meter, even though the meter in the camera worked. The negatives look properly exposed, so I'm certain that the shutter works as it should. the lens is also very clean. There was one thumbprint on it, caused by the worker carelessly putting the camera in a brown paper bag and stapling the reciept to the top of the bag (Why he didnt just hand me the camera and a reciept, I dont know :/). Luckily I had a bottle of lens cleaner and some wipes, which seem to have solved the thumbprint problem
Also, the body is very nice. there is a bit of wear on it, but I'm not sure how old it is. Is there a way to use the serial number or something to see when it was manufactured?
Oh, and if someone has a spare lens cap for a Pentax 50mm f/2 lens laying around, I'd be happy to take it off your hands for a few dollars or a couple of rolls of FP4+
