I noticed several of the cameras I’m working with still have their original leather cases. Some are in decent shape, some aged. Are these just for collectors, or do they still have practical value?

Collectors tend to not be very interested in cases. The design of most cases is also usually impractical for users. I think I've thrown out 200 cases...

As far as I'm concerned, I still use to use my Exakta and Contax RF cases, from time to time even my old Contax/Yashica cases: to keep cameras dry in the rain and to protect them a bit when I'm cycling - in case of falling off.

The 80s cases' materials are rather cheap but those from the 30s and 50s are remarkably robust. Just make sure that the straps are ok.

Hi,

the ones I like best and use are the old ICA cases for plate cameras - more like camera bags than cases. Room for filters, light meter and cassettes. Great.
Rolleis first cases are fine, but tight fit.

Never liked those "everready cases" those are stored seperately from the cameras...
