Black gaffer's tape is far better than a grey sweat sock for keeping out stray light. That's what I use on my Leica camera phone, for example.

I did this when I was about 14.. so 25+ years ago. I used a "pick-up stix" tube jammed into a teleconvertor attached to my camera that I could remove the elements out of. My 50mm lens also jammed in the end good enough with no extra fitting. very agricultural!
