Any new film camera is welcome to the market, even if i won't afford it
At least it keeps people interested in the craft and some film producers alive&active.

Not sure if this is any sort of foreshadowing, but Leica sent out an email blast today with the subject '#filmisnotdead' with links to film photography related content on their site. An excerpt:

A mindful experience in our digital world

'Film is packed with small imperfections, just like life'

Due to the chemical nature of film, analogue has a different look than digital. New York based photographer, Joe Greer sees these small imperfections as an important part of the journey, adding to the beauty of his images. Get Inspired...

Meaningful? I guess we'll find out...

It'll probably be a 100 piece run of a Herme"s edition M-A Titan with a special edition Noctilux for a paltry thirty five grand and the hashtag "Long Live Film!"

Leica Camera USA posted this to their Instagram feed this morning. More foreshadowing? 🙂

The peak of the high end P&S, Contax T3, Nikon Ti and the others was in the late 1990s. Leica had a few but didn't introduce the CM until 2004 just as the digital wave was building. It lasted two years, didn't initially sell a lot of units and now sells for stupid prices. It'll be interesting to see the October surprise.

I had mentioned earlier that to me the only film camera to make sense is a new CM. Or re-introduced CM! They don't even need to re-design it!
Luxury P&S cameras are the rage, crazy expensive, and frankly failing. So many of the Contax T2s (and to a lesser extent the T3) are just bricking. Same for the Nikon 28/35 Ti, that fancy Minolta thing, any of the Ricoh GR film cameras etc.
The only ones that seem to be ok are the Fuji Klasse S and W, and the amazing Rollei QZ 35 series. But that's most probably because they are the newest.

A new CM would not compete with an M, but will bring in more photogs, and also will have many M photogs getting one too.

But that one dood who seems to be on the money and so got banned from l-camera forum says it's going to be a limited edition M6 type thing.

Stephen? I didn't realize he got banned. I thought he self-exiled.

FYI I use the Fuji Klasse W, and while it has a superb lens and some nice features - the exp comp dial is excellent - it does not feel like a high end luxury camera at all. Frankly it feels cheaply made, has a very noisy film load and winding action, and very slow AF.

The cynical man in me thinks they will release a new M with cheaper features at the same price as the MP is selling for now, then increase the price on the MP making the new camera the "affordable" one. Lol.

A new CM wouldn't be a bad idea, but if they want like 4 grand for it then it will join the old CMs. Two grand would be a no brainer if you were looking for a camera like that.

So if you are accurate which is what I understand the phrase "on the money" to mean then what seems to be a Leica forum bans you? That sounds so bad as to be almost laughable. Isn't this the behaviour of a gang of 6-7 years old where the 2 biggest and loudest kids decide the whole gangs behaviour?

Come to think of it, it accurately describes some adult kids' gangs as well 😆

So it's official (we'll not really 😁)

Hard to get excited about a new film camera when the cost of film has tripled and processors have dried-up. Although probably not a concern when paying Leica prices.

if you can afford a Rolls-Royce, you dont worry about the price of fuel, if you can aford a Leica, you don't worry about the price of film. several folks have hinted over the last few years that 12 bucks a roll is about the break even point if you have to include the total cost of Capital used.

Just paid $15.75 for 3 pack Fuji Superia 400/36 exp. Also bought Kentmere 400 36 exp for under $5. My local shop devs C41 and E6. If they didn't I'd mail it out to any of the numerous labs out there.
