New Leica film camera coming?

Now you've changed things up just a bit I was responding to your original suggestion that Leica take the MP, add an angled crank and a red dot and sell it for $2K less than current MP prices. I don't personally think that would be a successful proposition. But a film camera that can be produced more cheaply/efficiently than the current cameras and uses less expensive materials is a different story.

We are both learning as this story moves along. In the discussion on LUF there is mention of a mythical camera made of lightweight material being tested. Originally, my feeling was they were going to keep the MA/MP body and move to an aluminum top plate but then I started to wonder, what if they moved in a direction no one was expecting? It's all conjecture but I would buy a three thousand dollar plastic M7!

That's a non starter, since they're all still working like the day they were made. A camera that heavy gets left at home a lot.

You saw through my sarcasm.
However, I have been using Leicaflex cameras since early 1070s 1970s and never found weight a problem. For me they are very comfortable in the hand, but then everybody is different. My other SLR choice for 35mm is Nikon F.
Leica is now a boutique item, meant to be worn as a fashion accessory. I can visualize marketing a Leica with very prominent red dot but no moving parts.

Think of the color choices for the plastic Leica! Some of the sparkling bowling ball combo’s or even something stealthy like camouflage or flat black. Maybe even rubberized for extra protection in hostile environments!

As we know any move forward in leica design is always viewed as a step backwards by afficionadoes.

Perhaps building on the success of the mp knurled windback, replacing the 'modern' fold out of the m6 this time the wind on lever will be replaced by a simple knurled knob too, to recreate the true 50s sore finger shooting experience.

What If? Leica did a updated M7? Electronic shutter borrowed from the M11, use the M11 rangefinder that uses electronic frame lines, (ie you don't see the frame lines when the M11 is switched off) updated computer control, a DX system, maybe even a little lcd display that would display what type of film was loaded. The list is endless.

Long term ideal situation would be to try and have some common parts between digital and film platforms

I tried to rewind the sensor in my M10. It did not go well.

No, the IIIG was the last of the screw mounts. It began production after the M3 came to market, being made from 1956 to 1960. It offered the best viewfinder of all of the screw mount line, big, bright and had parallax correction.
