Now you've changed things up just a bitI was responding to your original suggestion that Leica take the MP, add an angled crank and a red dot and sell it for $2K less than current MP prices. I don't personally think that would be a successful proposition. But a film camera that can be produced more cheaply/efficiently than the current cameras and uses less expensive materials is a different story.
That's a non starter, since they're all still working like the day they were made. A camera that heavy gets left at home a lot.
In response to demands from PHOTRIO, the new Leica film camera will be revolutionary: it will take 220 film only, but in response to concerns from members about film costs, it will also be half frame.
I have been using Leicaflex cameras since early 1070s
Leica could announce new film camera in October: will it be the Leica M-E?
Leica could announce a new film camera in October, and I wonder if it's the M-E!www.digitalcameraworld.com
This is an interesting article. Might be cool if it is something like this. Still astronomical in price.
The Leica M7 also featured TTL flash metering, all the way up to 1/1000th of a second!
New Leica film camera rumored to be announced in October - Leica Rumors
I have been reporting for a while about a new Leica M film camera that will replace the current Leica MP model. The first rumors indicated a new “cheap” M film version, but I think it is safe to assume that the new camera will not be cheap. A press event is already scheduled for […]leicarumors.com
Question... is this Industry News? It does not come from the industry, but a click bait web site breathing off the stale gasps of rancid rumors.
;p
Think of the color choices for the plastic Leica! Some of the sparkling bowling ball combo’s or even something stealthy like camouflage or flat black. Maybe even rubberized for extra protection in hostile environments!
Whatever the announcement, some will be excited, many disappointed and most won’t care.
You mean hostile as here at this forum? Rubber does not protect against words...
How about a Britney Spears glitter and rhinestone-encrusted model? Too old-school, maybe. A Banksy edition that self destructs after the first roll?Ok, I'm interested, keep talking.
You are older than I thought!
I'll correct it for you to the early 1970s.
Don't give Huss any ideas! He'll be headed to the parking lot with a M7 and an armload of rattle cans! It ok if he sill has a Zorki hanging around, then he can practice. How about a Britney Spears glitter and rhinestone-encrusted model? Too old-school, maybe. What If? Leica did a updated M7? Electronic shutter borrowed from the M11, use the M11 rangefinder that uses electronic frame lines, (ie you don't see the frame lines when the M11 is switched off) updated computer control, a DX system, maybe even a little lcd display that would display what type of film was loaded. The list is endless.
Long term ideal situation would be to try and have some common parts between digital and film platforms

Why not just a Leica III with a decent viewfinder? They could also sell a model with an M-mount.
Wasnt that the IIIG?
No, the IIIG was the last of the screw mounts. It began production after the M3 came to market, being made from 1956 to 1960. It offered the best viewfinder of all of the screw mount line, big, bright and had parallax correction.
