While watching a programme on U.K. TV tonight on channel 4, I saw for the first time what for me was the new Kodak advert. It is Keep It Digital Keep it Kodak. Its theme is a group of youngsters looking around what seems to be a Kodak Exhibition with the appearance of an obviously senior executive( CEO perhaps), complete with philanthropic and avuncular look and an American accent( OK it is a U.S. company but Sony doesn't advertise in the U.K. by emphasising its Japanese origins) telling the kids what a great invention digital is. It can restore all our outmoded film which is soon to crumble by saving it to digital thus ensuring that historic events such as the moon landing and a Muhammed Ali knockout are saved for posterity. It can make the blind see the lame walk.... OK I exaggerate here but the sentiment of a discovery like penicillin is there.
No mention of Kodak's film background at all. If anyone had any doubt about Kodak's eggs all being in one basket called digital then this should clear up such doubts. It is now Kodak's year zero in the historical sense and it is called digital. It is proud and confident of its new future. Indeed there is only the digital future. Kodak didn't exist until digital arrived. It is the agent of change for the good of mankind. The tone of the Ad was a form of hubris. Nemesis will hopefully shortly follow.
If Kodak wants to forget its film past then we should help them by hastening the Kodak film demise.
