Dear All,

We do realise our customers are not just in the UK, in fact 85% of all products we make are exported and we most certainly care.

The link to APUG will be on as soon as possible.

Simon, great site. Let me echo what DF Cardwell posted, in that any and all technical information be added over time to the product resources. Years ago, this is one of the things that made Kodak strong; its commitment to providing the widest range of detailed information to the photographer.

Just made the final jump away from Kodak films; I have become tired of polishing brass on the Titanic... Chemistry is slowly transitioning as well. Please, keep up the good work, and we appreciate and will support your efforts.

Will there be a way to apply at the Silver Conference? I'm sure there will be but want to make sure I get my name to Ilford.

Good start, same issue with postal code. Sorry to see the Mac users having so many problems.

BTW, I have some color photos that I could provide you; would give the site a bit more "splash" :D

I like the new site. However, a couple of observations, you now have two forums (the old ILFOPRO forum and the new forum) that are out of sync. The old gallery looks like it's not being linked into the new site. No big loss there if the new gallery is as easy to submit photos to as the old. It also looks like the new gallery will be open to everyone and not just forum members, which is good. One thought here, the user will need to manage two registrations whereas before they had a single registration. One for the forum and one for the gallery assuming they wish to use both.

Dave

(P.s., registration for the gallery failed, please pass on to your tech folks, "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'

Dear Roteague

You can try and worm your way into our affections...but until I see a monochrome image...no way... just one image... not hundreds.. just one Black and White... no colour at all...how hard can this be...

With Kind Regards to a colourfull character

Dear All,

Thanks for the info regfarding the powder chems, they dropped out somehow, our web team will fix it along with quite a few other things by the weekend.

It has taken 9 months to create and write so we are bound to have a few 'funnies' sorry if any annoy.

Simon,
I had a look and am glad to see the site, however, I thought I would register and can't for the life of me figure out what you mean by "PostalCode" I tried my zip code but got back an improper entry. Perhaps it is term unique to the UK but his Yankee don't know what you need.

I haven't navigated the whole site but it seems to work OK. Mind you I am U.K. based and use Internet Explorer.

The site includes Cafe Ilfopro. Do I take it that this is the same Cafe Ilfopro I was a member of and if so, can I safely delete my former site.

I also have Ilford English Home as a site I visit. Is this still a "live" site or is it no longer relevant?

Simon,

First of all, the new site looks conservatively beautiful and it is a great fit for the Ilford brand. There is a lot to like, including the coding. You are definitely on the right track as far as modern coding practices and standards are concerned.

I do have a few constructive complaints, though, the biggest of them being navigation. This is my biggest and the only serious complaint. It is pretty the way it is, but it will fail any user with JavaScript disabled for any reason. It will also make life difficult for people with disabilities.

I understand the desire to have some glitz, but I don't think it is a good idea to base your main navigation exclusively on a client-side scripting language. At the very least, you should provide a text-only alternative navigation.

The other big complaint is the way it works on the Mac, primarily Safari, but that's already been catalogued above. My version of Safari is 2.0.3, under OSX 10.4.5 on the Intel Mac.

The rest is just minor glitches that are normal for any site in the early stage.

Best of luck,

Marko

Hmm .. worked fine for me (UK based and a mac user with Safari). Sorry it didn't work for you.

UK postcodes use this alphaalphanumbernumber numberalphaalpha format so it may be worth 'experimenting' cheers CJB

I believe Canada and Australia have post codes too. Maybe they work.

Unfortunately the site will not accept a Canadian postal code (or at the very least just not mine).

However, the new site is very nice!!!:D

There are about 8 different UK postcode formats: I just tried the Beeb's W1A 1AA on the shop finder and it didn't like it. I suspect they have made a simple mistake in the coding...

What was this thread about again?

Oh yes! Congrats on the new site! I was wondering when we would see a separate Harman site using the ilfordphoto.com domain that they registered.

Cheers, Bob.

Hi Simon

I do appreciate all that Ilford/Harmon is up too. I tried to email you a product description and product need. Unfortunately after 10 minutes of filling in the blanks I tried to send... and no luck couldn't find the send key. Or I may just be internet clumsy.
Whats up with the page for feedback??

May be a browser issue.... I see Send and Reset buttons in Win2k with IE6 and Firefox (although in Firefox, some of the text is shifted).

Certainly shows why it's best to stick to standard HTML wherever possible: even with the small handful of sites I have created, trying to get Javascript to work across browsers is a real pain. CSS has it's moments too...

Cheers, Bob.

I like the new website. I especially like the Why silver halide? page. Nice to see some promotion of traditional photographic materials.

Well the site doesn't accept Australian Post Codes, either!

The parts of the site that I've seen, appear to be quite well laid out.

Technical information I've seen appears reasonable, I think opening up into a PDF, which is instantly printable, is the go.

I'll tour the site extensively at a later date.

Simon some gentle criticism, from the context of an Ilford user from 1970.

1. Please publish RMS grain and MTF information. It helps. Sometimes, as a technical photographer, it helps get the bl**dy job.

2. Publish curves for different film / developer combinations. THEY ARE DIFFERENT.

3. Update the competitor equivalents list. And TXP is not in anyway similar to HP5.

4. Please make the website Mac-friendly. There are a few of us Mac drivers that are interested in arty stuff like B&W photography.

5. When I can't input my postal code to 'signup', it reinforces the OLD image of Ilford being a precious little English firm stuck in the '50s. It has NEVER been easy to regularly get Ilford product, and that would be nice to change.

6. Will Ilford make available their 'special products' ? Having an Ortho film again would be VERY nice.

Above all, thanks for keeping the B&W flame alive.

d

Especially 6. I did notice that there is "product request" page on the site, may be we should use it.

Enjoy lunch tomorrow. BTW had a great time in Muskegon.

I have a request for Ilford to drop a product range. That being "Traffic Surveillance film".
