Dear Apuggers,

I am pleased to tell you that we have just gone live with our new website yesterday:

www.ILFORDPhoto.com

Thats not a link as I do not know how to do it !

Its brand new, and we have lots of other additions and links planned, as you can see its for the monochrome products fron HARMAN technology only.

I hope you enjoy it and your comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Simon,

just a quick note: where does Ilford presume that all of its customers live?
I tried to fill in the questionnaire but get stuck on the postal code... I can't find a country selection.

The product pages are more user friendly than they used to be, but it's quite annoying that a PDF file opens whithout warning (product pages).

Agree with the above.

I checked for dealers in my area and my postcode has been rejected.

I then tried to subscribe to the "About you" section and my postcode has been reviewed as "formally incorrect".

Will the old website stay the same? Or a resfresh is planned for it as well?

Excellent site, Simon!

There's a lot of good information on there and room for growth too. The navigation seems well-thought out...

...in fact, the only thing really missing seems to be a link to APUG! I know we're not a Trade Association, but...!

Lovely website, good luck with it.

Please note PostCodes are not used in the Rep of Ireland.

Nice looking site Simon, now how can I register there? It gives an error message all the time I try.
Well, new sites always need some fine tuning.

Cheers

I also want to voice my appreciation for the new site. However, I'm having the same problem with the postal code.

The parts that display correctly on my browser look slick however sadly a lot displays badly on Safari running on an Apple Mac. The products section seems to stack several items in a stack and clicking on the stack opens the topmost item. Would suggest further testing before final deployment to ensure compatibility across different browsers and on different platforms.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Hany.

Very nice web site indeed! That's good news because of Ilford's position in the BW photography world.

Hi Simon,

Very nice site. I also use a Mac and Safari and have the text stacking issue on some pages. Like the products catalogue page (see www.aparicio.co.uk/ilford.png for a screen grab). Also get the post-code error when entering my (Spanish) post code. Very glad to see some where to buy suggestions, hope to see these include international vendors soon too.

On the where to buy page, when I click online I get a list of 5 or so vendors initially but when I scroll down the page, 2 or 3 disappear from the list and can only see two.. [edit: in Firefox for Mac I can see many more, several pages..]

An excellent site, looks really slick. It's nice to be able to get to information and fact sheets quickly.

I also see the problem with Safari (version 2.0.3 on Mac OS 10.4.5), however the site renders just fine under Mac FireFox (version 1.5.0.1).

Very slick and simple to navigate website, ideal for non-computer literates like me! I was pleasantly surprised to see an image of an Ackroyd and Best miner's safety lamp, as my "other" interest is collecting mining memorabilia (or "junk", as my other half likes to describe it!)

Only minor whinge is the use of the US spelling of "fiber" throughout most of the site, except in a couple of the text sections where the **correct** spelling "fibre" appears ! ;-)

Best wishes,
Steve

Microphen also appears to be missing from the Catalogue section.

Simon some gentle criticism, from the context of an Ilford user from 1970.

1. Please publish RMS grain and MTF information. It helps. Sometimes, as a technical photographer, it helps get the bl**dy job.

2. Publish curves for different film / developer combinations. THEY ARE DIFFERENT.

3. Update the competitor equivalents list. And TXP is not in anyway similar to HP5.

4. Please make the website Mac-friendly. There are a few of us Mac drivers that are interested in arty stuff like B&W photography.

5. When I can't input my postal code to 'signup', it reinforces the OLD image of Ilford being a precious little English firm stuck in the '50s. It has NEVER been easy to regularly get Ilford product, and that would be nice to change.

6. Will Ilford make available their 'special products' ? Having an Ortho film again would be VERY nice.

Above all, thanks for keeping the B&W flame alive.

Dear Simon, OK website... nothing special from an IT perspective. Make sure you get the mentioned annoyances fixed... and in the meanwhile sent me my 50 sheets of Ilford Multigrade Warmtone Fibre paper... I've been waiting for that in the Netherlands for about a month now .
All the best,

Mac-friendlier design is at the top of my list too. I use an older iMac for the net with navigator and explorer. I cannot navigate your site in either of them, the explorer probably being the worst. Check your stats to see what people are using to navigate your site. Screen size is also an item. Somehow in navigator the windows open too big and I can't read the text from one end to the other (with screen size of approx. 15 inch?). So sad and sorry to say, if it stays like this I won't be visiting there a lot.
Other than that: thumbs up for making a new website and testdriving it here.

Great site Simon, well done to Ilford yet again! And a Gallery too!

Ps. Keep up the postcode thing, it can be sweet revenge for those thousands of sites that only accept a d*mn zipcode!

Under the events listings, how about the APUG conference, considering that Ilford is a sponsor.

Looks good.
However, most of us don't live in the UK.

A globalized (Foreign-friendly) upgrade is required in the About You or Registration page.

What is a correct format for the Post Code?

Do you want full address, just the country, what?

Reply Regarding Our New Website

Dear All,

Many thanks for your feedback, we are in discussions with our technical people regarding the two major issues you have mentioned, MAC compatibility and the post code registration issue. We are working on it...

We do realise our customers are not just in the UK, in fact 85% of all products we make are exported and we most certainly care.

The link to APUG will be on as soon as possible.

Thanks again

Simon.
