New Ilford film being Introduced

In the emulsive article Harman give the planned Ortho Plus prices for ILFORD online own store;
"Our UK web pricing for the ORTHO PLUS which will be £8.35 for 135 36 and £7.99 for 120 (both inc VAT). Our web prices tend to be higher than the prices that our dealers".

By comparison ILFORDs online price for FP4/HP5 in 135-36 for one roll is £5.92 or about 13-18% more than better dealer retail prices circa £5-5.25. (Presumably to avoid undercutting their own dealers) For SFX as a lower volume comparison is £11.66 compared to c10.20 dealer price which is a 14% difference. (Note some dealers charge more than ILFORDs own prices)

So this would suggest a best dealer price of ca. £7.25 for 135-36 and 6.96 for 120 if a 15% reduction is applied to ILFORD online store prices.

By comparison Rollei Ortho 25 is c£7.34 for 135-36 and 120. This is probably not entirely without co-incidence (they are both lower volume products, with a minimum cost of production and its not financially advantageous to under cut the opposition significantly for the volume. Harman of course slit and package some of the Rollei films (inc I think Ortho 25 but happy to be corrected) so will be aware of the current volumes involved!).

Difficult to respond. It's all academic to me. Print some images and you'll know it quickly.

Thanks Tom. It was the size of the adjustment based on my deductions from the Ilford statement that I am interested in. It might be that at say an exposure of 12 seconds at grade 3 then the difference between no change and 1.2 secs(10% more) might be very marginal i.e. just about noticeable if you have two prints next to each other but not if they are viewed separately with an interval between viewings

What's a podcast player? Sorry if this sounds like I am making a joke but this is a new one on me. Does it require that I join Sunny 16 and give all sorts of details on myself or can anyone have a listen once they have a podcast player?

Again at the risk of sounding curmudgeonly I take it that the podcast "informs" It is not just 2 people talking a lot but saying little. Sorry but it's just that so many of these things seem take 15 mins to say what is worth about 2 mins of listening time

You have to use Apple iTunes or something similar (Windows equivalent).

Yeah that about sums it up. I listened to it, gave up after half an hour, and it is over two hour long.

Podcasts of today are like radio shows of the 1930s.

It’s like anything else... some are worthless pontification, some are not. Many of them have guest interviews. Classic lens podcast had me on a while back talking lens design... I got to talk optics long enough to make me miss ray bending and get back into for my day job. That was a good episode I think. It was one of their most popular ones.

Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History is an excellent award-winning podcast. If you are a fan of history, you will enjoy this one. Right now he’s going through the Rise and Fall of the Japanese Empire.

I feel the same way about some forum posts.

If you like listening to radio shows, you will enjoy podcasts. You'll sometimes hear from people in a more conversational way that you will reading spec sheets and press releases.

If it doesn't float your boat, then don't bother trying to learn how to turn on that newfangled phone and download the em-pee-three things.

Difficult to tell. I tried to order some Fri(yesterday) from my supplier, and they don't have it from Ilford yet and haven't even sent out the new part numbers to order by, so I'll have to give it a week or so.

This is exactly the reason why I prefer to read an article/webpage/etc. rather than listen to a podcast or watch a youtube instructional video. I can skim to the relevant (to me) points immediately without having to listen to the whole thing. Unfortunately, it seems that 90% of mankind is of the opposite opinion !

I think with their website, it doesn't show the link to the podcast depending on what device it's on. (I may be wrong about this!) I think it works on my laptop but not my ipad which I use for listening to podcasts in the dakroom.

The best way is to listen from this website. No need to download the app and no need to sign on to anything. Also has an archive of previous shows.

I quite like the Sunny 16 podcast but certainly don't have the available time to listen to every one....and it is rather difficult to actually download the files. I am an infrequent podcast listener so have no interest in installing and registering a podcast app....which in all likelihood won't have all three podcasts I occasionally listen to.

As for Ilford Ortho film....it will probably find a place in my arsenal, I've been looking for reasonably priced ortho film for a while. Some to try landscape and city shots and others to recreate vintage erotica.

I have a 50-60 minute commute twice a day so I can listen to that podcast during my drive.

Looking forward to the new film. The price doesn't bother me since it appears I'll be able to get 1 x 127 and 2 x 110 rolls out of one roll of 120.

I prefer mixing articles, podcasts, youtube and Vimeo, forum posts, etc. No wrong way to do it.
