i heard an interview with richard avedon on NPR many years ago
and he said he used to tape negatives on himself and get
sun tan images

Yes, it's been done.

Take some fertiliser, mix it up and put it in a squirt bottle. In the spring, use it to write phrases of your choice on your or a neighbor's lawn. Say a "Peace" sign on the lawn of the local gun nut.

My dad used to tape negatives of myself and my brother onto unripe apples. When ripe we had pretty ordinary images of ourselves but they were still identifyable. We used to think Dad was gifted with magic until he showed us how it was done. The problem was keeping the negs taped onto the fruit for a fortnight or so.

I vaguely recall news about an artistic installation with a huge (3 or 4m square, probably painted polythene sheet) "negative" placed on a trimmed lawn for a few days for an event opening (was it Wimbledon?). It wasn't exactly a continuous-tone image though, and apparently disappeared very quickly.

This has been done for years on people hasn't it? With those little bunny-logo stickers . . . maybe I've been on the wrong beaches. . .

Coal-tar soap is an old-fashioned (and somewhat smelly...) soap that people use for a variety of reasons. One side effect of using this soap is that it increases your skin's sensitivity to the sun.

SO... here we have an accelerator for "skin prints"!

Yes, I woke up Saturday morning, wrote that down and then went back to bed in hopes of having another one of my "1-million-Yen" ideas.

Unfortunately no more came forth, and so I just stared at my ceiling for the remainder of the weekend... God I'm lonely...

Despite Bob's criticism, I had another thought about this...

If the negative material was highly flexible and sticky, you could adhere it really well to your skin and get good contact so that one could actually come away with a decent image by the end of the day. Maybe it could be a thin collodion "stripping film", that after processing could be stripped off its base, wetted and plastered onto your skin. The same idea could potentially work with gelatin. You could "fix" your image by applying a liberal amount of high SPF sunscreen.

Thinking about matching H&D curves to your skin's burning "curve" is rather amusing...

or you would increase the chance to be cancer with contacting your skin with plastic and than overheat the contact zone.
