If you're not used to square format, it may take a bit to get used to the 6x6 back from a composition perspective. Adds a bit of a different flavor.

I've gone through a series of medium format cameras - Yashica TLR, Mamiya RZ67, 6x6 folder, Mamiya 645 - and never been satisfied for one reason or another. This camera so far seems to cover all of those issues, except the price of lenses (30mm anyone?).

I enjoyed the square format before though. And I have the 6x4.5 back as well.

Yeah, pretty much what he said. I got my 503 about 12 years ago and just got the body, lens (same as you just got), back, and waist level finder - all for more than twice what you just paid.

You got a great deal. The CF lens you got is a lot newer than the camera body, and I prefer the CF lenses from an ergonomic standpoint. I find them much faster and easier to operate then the older style lenses.

Very good! Also, smart of you to reseal the backs before using.

Whatever you do, DO NOT order the seals from 'blackbird" on Ebay - I sealed my backs in December with his seals and they already are leaking light again. Get the real Hasselblad seals.

If I remember right, up at Bill's last year both you and Eva were using RB's or RZ's and seemed quite familiar with them. If I may ask (because a few hundred dollars have slipped into my hands and I can't make up my mind,) besides the weight which everyone complains about, what didn't you like about the Mamiyas? RB/RZ outfits seem dirt cheap right now.

The Precious...... Me wants it, me wants it bad good steal of a deal Jeff. Now you need a 50, and 150 and you are set BTW, changing the light traps... Make sure you get genuine Blad ones!!! I tried the cheapo ones off E'bay for $9.99 They work, but not too well for IR film!! It takes all of 10 minutes to change them. Remember, the darkslide is your friend when changing the traps.... Ask me how I know you use it to hold the new trap down. If not, you can kink the mylar trip... It happened to me.

Well, I moved up to a 4x5 and the weight was too much for her to reasonably lug around. The camera itself is doable, especially with a grip handle, and I successfully handheld it for many shots. But in a backpack, with 3-4 lenses, 3 backs, etc. it was getting up to 30-40 pounds.

So, we've moved through a couple of options, and then the Hassy fell into our laps. Certainly the RZ67 is a great system with great glass, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again. It really is a do everything system - we used it in the field, in the studio, doing macro work with the built in macro bellows, hauled it into abandoned buildings and into the mud in the countryside and it never gave us an issue. Except for the backache.

Soooo .... if you can deal with the weight, or not carry all the extra backs and lenses I think you would be fine.

Yeah, definitely need something wide! I was looking at some 40mms on KEH that didn't seem too expensive - the 30mm were crazy though.

Where should I source genuine foam replacement? Also, instructions on how to do so. We've done seals on a lot of other cameras, but this design is pretty different. The darkslides have a dark residue on them that I assume to be the light seal. I just don't see how to get to it without a screwdriver.
