Hey, all!
I just registered here at APUG, and am excited to be here.
I live on an island in southeast Alaska, and was a serious student of photography many years ago. For years, I have wanted to pick up my camera, rebuild my darkroom, and pick up where I left off. The creative fire that I thought had burned out in my twenties has apparently smoldered all this time, and I don't think I could *not* start working again on my photography if I wanted to.
My view camera left my possession years ago, but my trusty old Nikon F2 has been patiently waiting for me to use it. I still have much of the old darkroom equipment that has followed me around over the years, and added several pallets of surplus equpment recently to my collection. I am only weeks away from completing the plumbing and construction for my darkroom. I hope to pick up studio lights, backdrops, and other such equipment this winter.
My interests in photography are pretty broad. In the past, I did a fair amount of scenic and wildlife photography, still life work, people shots, experimental work, and good ol' artsy-fartsy studies in light, shadow, texture, and composition. I am mostly self-taught, though I've taken classes at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, attended workshops for a few months at Visual Studies Workshops in Rochester, New York, and attended workshops with Bruce Barnbaum in Phoenix, Arizona. I count among my influences Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Brett Weston, Minor White, Robert Farber, Imogen Cunningham, W Eugene Smith, Wynn Bullock, Harry Callahan, and Jerry Uelsmann. I am looking forward to discussing more recent photographers and their works.
I plan to teach myself figure photography this winter, with both existing light and with artifical light (I am *totally* uneducated as far as studio lighting is concerned). I have been out of the loop for a while, and need to get up to speed with current films, papers, and chemistry. I welcome the advice of the members here, and will return the favor as my competence level rises.
