Hello Everyone!

I just found my way to this place as we had a discussion about film photography on DPReview. Somebody mentioned APUG as a good community to talk about anything about film.

I'm 41 years old and living in the southern part of Germany. I'm a fulltime photographer and travel often to the UK and the US, where I made good friends.
Like many of us, I had to start digital photography in 2002, because the clients liked digital stuff more and more. I still work with film when someone wants a black and white portrait or art photography.

My Filmcameras are a Rolleiflex 3,5f from the 1960's, almost new and my second one, which is my most used camera, is a Rolleiflex 2,8f from 1970. Both are with selen metering and Zeiss lenses. The films I use are TMax and Ilford Deltas. Sometimes I use C-41 processed films. When I use colour films, I like Kodaks Portra NC at most. I had a Contax 645 in the past, which was an awesome camera too.

That's all for now and i hope I will make a few new friends here.

Hi Markus, welcome from Hawaii. What part of Germany do you live in? I visited Lindau in 2003 and lived in Wertheim in 1979.

Hi Markus,

I am a German living in the UK!

If you ever travel in the Midlands, give me a shout - we will go for a beer and talk film!

Good to see you here

Thank you very much for the hearty welcome!

It was more than I have expected. It is nice to see so many photographers from different corners of this world. I hope you forgive me my Sauerkraut-English, I try to give my best.

I do not often talk to people who still use film. When I meet other photographers and we talk about gear, I get many laughs when I show them my old Rolleiflex and they show me their last digital toy. I feel sometimes like an old Dinosaur. Anyway, when I look at the prints, nothing can take me away from film. It is always a pleasure to look at.

I don't process the films by my own, because I have Asthma. I can't breathe in a Darkroom. I have a very good laboratory here in Germany.

Sure, I'm very interested what you guys use and why you chose your camera.
I never used a Rangefinder. This is camera in which I'm very interested.
If someone has knowledge about which is a good Rangefinder to buy, let me know. I've heard the Contax G2 is a nice one.

Okay, I'm talking too much again. It is perhaps i don't have to talk about resolution and pixel density anymore

Again, thank you very much for the nice welcome!

I've heard the Contax G2 is a nice one.
Not really. It is an autofocus camera with interchangeable lenses, not a true rangefinder camera. WHEN it focuses (which is almost always) it is very good. The rest of the time... Well, you can see why there are three major manual focus systems still in production (Leica, Voigtländer, Zeiss Ikon) and no autofocus. I had a G2 outfit alongside my Leicas for a year.

Mit freundlich Grüßen,

Roger

Okay, I listed all of you to my buddy list, so I can't loose you. PM me anytime you want.

Rangefinders

Thank you Roger! Which one of the Leicas would you recommend to a Rangefinder beginner? How about the idea to get a used one?
