hopefully, this film will manipulate. if not, most sx-70 uses will not be impressed
 
True, it would be great if it would manipulate but if it doesn't I'd still be glad to have it at a reasonable cost.

I'm not totally sure the manipulators are in the majority though Ann, I think theres a huge amount of users that just love the colour and feel of it.

But fingers crossed it will make a comeback and will manipulate. :smile:
 
I'm not holding out much hope for manipulation, unless they have the actual Time Zero formula in hand. More than likely, this new film will address the difference in film speed, and do away with the problem of having to compensate with ND filters to get images when using 600 film in their SX-70 cams.

That said....it would totally ROCK if it could manipulate! :tongue: I'd be in line with cash in hand! That was a process I really enjoyed.

I now have a set of bookends, sx-70 cameras.........sigh

I do think theres a huge market for time-zero film and it is sustainable. Just looking at the amount of time-zero on websites like www.polanoid.net amazes me.

SX-70 Blend New Site

OK, here's the latest ~ http://www.sx70blend.com/ It seems to be a (new, improved) variant of 600 chemistry wrapped up in a SX-70 cassette with ND filter pre-attached. The site says the film is not supposed to be manipulable but has a couple of example polaroids where an Italian chap & polaroid manipulation master Filippo has successfully manipulated the film!

Ordered a pack today with a SotD coupon, looking forward to trying it. Looks different to the original, i'm hoping not too much.
 
i tried to find the manipulated images, but was not successful.

until more information is available about how this process is possible i will pass.

Hey people, centecente (who is the creator of the image that Fintan linked to) is an experienced hand at all forms of Polaroid film manipulation. (He authored the ebook about it which is available as a pdf download from polanoid.net) - he knows all the tricks!
Because the film is basically based on 600 film chemistry I surmised you would have to be PDQ in your manipulation techniques! I asked Filippo about it and he replied:
"yes you need to work really quickly in order to manipulate the film
is not like the old sx 70 film but is possible to have some good effect also with this new unbelievable film..."
He gives a little bit more info about what he did in these cases:
"manipulation on SX 70 Blend film using wooden and metal tools, refrigerating the film and adding textures"
So although certainly not as easy as traditional SX-70 manipulation, it does appear do-able!

hmmm....is it time for that mood of cautious optimism to rise? :wink: I'm interested in getting more details on this. Might have to give in and snag a box over the winter.
 
SX-70's are going like hotcakes on eBay these days. Maybe this was a big scheme by Polaroid to discontinue the film to make the cameras popular again, at which point they remanufacture Time Zero again :smile:-p) badging it as the "original" and "true to the camera" film. But then why allow SX-70 blend to be made? Decisions, decisions.

I'm going to try this SX-70 blend, but just to be safe I'll keep my last pack of Time Zero in the refridgerator. Maybe I'll use it on my honeymoon, if it's not too far off.

i want to try a pack of this blend stuff, but haven't had the time to check it out. I don't find black out lining to be my style of manipulation, but thought i should try it first hand

i still have two cameras with flash and have been thinking about getting rid of at least one of them as i have no interest in using 600 film or even the blend if i can't get it to manipulate in a manner suited to my style.

i find it hard to believe that polariod has discounted this film only to bring it back as a marketing ploy. This film is very complicated to make and if they had been making money they would not have discounted this product.
