Hi Bergger,
Good to hear from you and congratulations on the new film. I would love to test it.

I've got 2 questions:
Can you show us some negatives & prints here?
Will you also produce size 18x24 cm?

Thanks,
Bert from Holland

Mes félicitations for this new products. I have the same question as Wildbill how close is it to fortepan, will it be a thick layer or thin layer emulsion?

Merci

Well, as you know Forte closed its doors in 2006.

Our wish was to elaborate a modern film, with classic grain.
So Pancro 400 is a two layer emulsion: one fast emulsion layer and one slow emulsion layer.
IN addition to that Pancro 400 has one of the best anti halation layer, and a protective layer. That is 4 layers.

Special sheet sizes will be available in the future.

135 and 120 will follow too

Fantastic! I'll be looking out for it here in Japan (I'm assuming that may take a while...).

Aurelien, in a recent APUG thread it was claimed that Bergger would soon "manufacture" products. I assume this is the first of them. Will you let us know whether Bergger has indeed begun coating film? Or is BERGGER Pancro 400 something custom made by another manufacturer, perhaps to Bergger's specifications, and then packaged either by Bergger or the actual manufacturer, also to Bergger's specifications?

If Bergger sources this film from another manufacturer, it would be good to know which one. Many of your potential customers do not wish to risk the shortcomings and defects frequently evident in sensitized products from lower-tier-quality coating facilities.

Thank you in advance for any details you can share.

The packaging says made in Germany so probably Inoviscoat which would be a high quality manufacturer.

Thanks; I missed that in the image. Undoubtedly Inoviscoat.

Interesting that this Bergger film is being introduced but ADOX Pan 400 seems to have fallen off the map. I wonder whether they're the same film.

Very exciting news!

But isn't that the same notch code as the old Bergger 200?

And the same as TMY-2? Probably not indicative of anything except there's no international registry of notch codes to prevent duplication.

I think this is a very clever comment  Indeed there is no rule for the notch punching. We invested in this kind of notch and all futur films will have the same notch. It's only goal is to know where is the emulsion side. No more.

Concerning the manufacture of the film: is it necessary to own a coating machine to produce film? I don't think so. More than that, when we consider the market today, it is better to share time machine on a coating line. It is more efficient economically. Who can afford to have a coating line today ? Kodak and Fuji, but they are suffering, Ilford, and they share it, Inoviscoat, only for custom coatings, and Foma.

BERGGER is a high quality brand that elaborates high quality products. We will propose to you only products that are original and come from a high level quality coating line.
I hope this clarify everything

Knowing which side is emulsion is most important. Anything else a notch can provide is gravy. Any chances for slower speed film in the future?

Aurelien thank you for the clarification and I agree with your sentiment regarding coating lines. This approach will also help to keep those lines running.
