I remember E-4 Ektachrome being bluish and E-4 Fujichrome having overdone colors. I preferred Fuji over Ekta. But I thought the class act in E-4 was Agfachrome. Natural colors, well balanced. Creamy whites.
I've recently mistaken some of my Agfachrome slides for Kodachrome-- their color has held up very well. My E-4 Fujichrome has been fading- mainly yellow, making the famous Fuji greens look muddy. I only bought E-4 films when I was too broke to afford Kodachrome, (around half the cost, with processing) and for that used Agfachrome after I 'discovered' it. The only thing I didn't like was its graininess, but back then nothing compared to Kodachrome in that regard, especially K25.

I'l try the Ferrania if it comes out. I don't know how the last E-6 films were from them as I never tried them.

Yes Agfachromes were way better than Kodak E3/4 but it was their own process and quite different to E3/4, and they did eventually switch to E6.

Of all my slides the early Kodachromes have faded the most but then they are the oldest going back to the mid 1950's. KII was a touch better, K25 seem very much better.

Did you project them much?

Kodachrome is generally very stable and resistant to dark fading, but badly susceptible to light fading. This was one reason people used to make Ektachrome dupes for projection.

Noted. Thanks for that.

Was Afgachrom differnt from Ansco/Gaf film and process? I am shooting Ansco 200 that had been frozen and I have GAF kits, the GAF process seems to be more like E4.

Ferrania has been around for a long time. They made a lot of the house branded color film (both negative and reversal) in the 70s though 90s, although they existed earlier. In Europe, they also distributed film under there own name. I think they were the ones who made 3M's film. Quality was considerably worse than Kodak, but price was a good deal less, too.

It's official! (Take from the other thread about Ferrania...)

I just hope they price it reasonably, it can't compete at the same price as FUJI.

Keep it under $6 USD a roll and I will buy at least 20 rolls a year.

I will buy it if it is cheaper than Fiji significantly in 4x5 sizes ... Assuming it has good color saturation.

If its good for skin I'll shoot Ferrania for people and Fuji for mountains and landscapes.

I might consider using Ferrania E6 products if I am given a few samples to test and QC. I certainly do not rely on company or corporate spin about how good a product is. A lot of money has been wasted like that. You go to their party, they give you the cake. Then eat it and tell them about it. The world too. At the moment, there is no competition for Fujfilm's E6 emulsions and they do the job well — for now. I would be very, very surprised if there is any other company out there planning to stand tall alongside Fujifilm in anything from consistent quality to the nuance of colour palette and contrast. We'll have to sit back and watch what eventuates.

I use to buy the 3M film (employee discount) and it was garbage. Very green cast. Even if it was free you would not want it. Hopefully, this will be better.

Their blog post states it was the Imation version of Scotch Chrome they are basing it on and not the 3M version.

They state it's being 're-engineered' but the datasheet for the Imation Scotch Chrome already indicates good colour.

Don't forget that Ferrania may be able to economically coat much lower quantities than Kodak or Fuji. We may or may not like Ferrania's products when they are released, but chances are that they will be the only game in town when they hit the market.

3M once bought Ferrania. Later in that period 3M named their imaging department "Imation".

"The new film is a re-engineered version of the Scotch Chrome 100 previously produced by the IMATION company and it does not have anything in common with the old 3M slide film from '70s"

I really hope they change the name, I don't like "scotch chrome" as a name, it sounds lame, Ferrania should make it something Italian or at least part of their brand, like Ferrachrome100 or something haha

I would expect them to not use the Scotchchrome name. 3M owns the name "Scotch", and I would bet they still hold the rights to the name "Scotchchrome".

I too expect another name and they are using Scotchrome just as a reference for now. Also, some classy packaging and presentation; "Solaris easy photography" is rather "meh" and not relevant anymore.

How's about this.....Ferrania partners with the estate of the late-great Fredrico Fellini, get a re-release of Fellini's films with the reprints done on Ferrania's cine projection stock. While concurrently releasing: Fellinichrome

Posters of Fellini and Ferrania brand abound the streets....

Massive return-to-film-movement starts in Italy and spreads throughout the planet!

There are a few distilleries in Scotland who would argue otherwise!

Steve.

3M owns the name "Scotch" for some products which are not related to liquor. :D

Ferrachrome just makes me though in something with iron salts, like a Cyanotype slide!
Liguriachrome is a good name also!

I still think they should have started with a film faster than 100 if capable of it. There is NO other competition left in new film, just remaining stock of Provia 400X. With a 100 speed film they are going head to head with Provia 100 and Velvia 100. If it's significantly different than either of those (lower contrast like Astia would be my hope) it may stand out, otherwise they'd have to compete on price.
