I would assume that there are only a small number of current B&W film manufacturers that will offer rebadged film now.
The ones that I know of are: Foma, Kentmere, Orwo, Agfa Aviphot pan.
Maybe someone can add to or subtract from the list.

You mix up things. Manufacturers offering themselves a rebadged version of one of their films (typically done to reach a more price sensitive market), and other entities offering such (in the best case in conversions not offered by the primary manufacturer.

Offered by other entities under other brands are films by
Agfa
Foma
Harman
Fuji
Kodak
Filmotec
Tasma (maybe)

not much primary manufacturers left...

AgX can you say which Kodak films are rebranded? Are these films which are not longer made by Kodak? I suppose there is no chance that TMax 400 is being offered by an other entity, is there?

In fact it would be helpful I believe if Photrio members had an up-to-date list of all rebranded films and what each of them was. In that case a separate thread/resource might be worthwhile

I think he means that Eastman Kodak produces the film and they are sold by Kodak Alaris?
And I think Carestream makes the Kodak branded RA-4 paper.

It is only rebranding if it is sold under multiple brands.
If Lomography are the only ones selling a particular film, it is toll coating.

Thanks all for the replies especially jonno85uk for theWiki2 link That;s pretty comprehensive. Wiki is often quite good but you'd imagine that a specialist site like Photrio would have the edge here but maybe not

That list has both orginal and rebrands thus one has to read carefully.

It still omits Filmotec and Tasma, but has got Spur.

A Wiki site is much better suited to keeping track of a constantly changing list than a forum like Photrio.
The best way to deal with this on Photrio would be a thread that links to the Wiki site.

Other issue is Cinestill is buying Kodak movie film removing the ram jet backing and loading it into cans and reselling it. Photowarehouse also buys movie and other films in long rolls or end rolls and loads into can, but they label the film Kodak, not Kodak Alaris.

Kodak is a brand name.
Eastman Kodak is not a brand name.
Kodak Alaris is not a brand name.
In the past, none of Kodak Canada, Kodak Pathe, Kodak Limited, Kodak Australia, Kodak South Africa or a legion of other international subsidiaries of Eastman Kodak were brand names.
If Cinestill is putting Kodak on their product, it means they are paying for the license to do so - just like the entities selling the Kodak T-shirts.

The guy who started the Kickstarter raised a substantial sum of money, and if you read the advert you could be mistaken that this is a new film. I realise otherwise.

Actually, Cinestill is buying enough Kodak cine emulsion stock at one time to have Kodak (whichever entity actually produces the Visions3 film stocks) produce it without the remjet, as well as have it cut in non-cine format. There is no method of removing the remjet, once applied, without damaging the emulsion (just as there's no way to make cine stock into unperfed 120).

C'mon, he mentions it clearly that it is made by someone else:

Yes he does but now you have mentioned it I was specifically looking for that quote. When you look at the whole "spiel" it appears to me to be emphasising the new aspect and he does tell a good tale. I'll give you that

The article seems to wrongly conflate "film noir " with gritty black and white, high contrast, shadowy mid European scenes, Harry Lime etc but that's part of the good tale along with the box, travels across "Mittel Europa" . hints of the cold war, Soviet camera etc

In terms of the facts as stated the film producer has been in the business of film making since about the 1880s ( 150 yrs was mentioned) and this film is capable of being used at up to 6400. Which films are capable of this, D3200, Kodak 3200 or Tri-X and HP5+ pushed to the absolute limit? I'd have thought it unlikely to be either of these films based on Kodak and Ilford's rebranding policy So what does that leave, Foma? However wasn't Foma only established a 100 years ago in 1921?

So its a film( currently made?) by a 150 years old company which is a 400 speed but still OK at 6400?

Any ideas of what meets the above facts as stated in the article?
