New! Bluefire Murano 160 Colour Print Film

For those shooting 127 format, there is a new colour print film made by BlueFire in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is being advertised as the "the first 127 roll film to be made in North America since 1995" and is sold through the Frugal Photographer. Some example shots can be found here.

That's very good news as the Maco colour print film seems difficult to get (possibly discontinued?). Also interesting that Frugal Photographer are offering a processing service at reasonable cost which also includes scanning to CD-ROM. No doubt the film itself is cut down Fuji or Kodak but it is still very good news for 127 users. Also found out recently that Retro Photography in the UK are offering a new 127 camera - it's a pinhole camera & very basic but that must be the first new 127 camera for 20/30 years or more.

Ferrania makes the Solaris C-41 films, as well as most private label C-41 films for big stores. I don't think Kodak does private label business.

Well, here in Germany they did start a few months ago. A large drugstore had to change their own label from AGFA to someone else; it seems to be Kodak. It states "Made in USA" and the canister and the spool are the same as Kodak.

Not Kodak nor Ferrania, the information on the link indicates it is made by Adox Fotowerke, Inc. Calgary.

Yep, they make BlueFire Police film also, it was the ADOX I ran across before the EFKE/ADOX we all know. I think they probably made it themselves.

Couldn't it be a Kodak film cut to length from nonsprocketed 100 foot rolls of 46mm stock?

Looking at the photos of the rolls on the website it looks like the paper is coming right out to the edge of the rim, no real "rim" to speak of (between the top of the paper/film roll and the edge of the rim), which would be consistent with the use of a thicker-based film (such as 46mm film, which I believe is generally coated on a thicker backing than most standard rollfilms).

If someone actually gets their hands on some of this, a little bit of examination would be interesting. How thick is the film? Is there a gelatine backing layer (common on thinner based rollfilms, to help avoid curl), or is the non-emulsion side "raw" film base?

Well it turns out that the film is not really new but is in fact cut down bulk rolls of Kodak Portra NC 160. The spools, backing paper, and packaging are Canadian and it is re-spooled in Calgary. r-s had it right.
