Never used Nikon F2SB

I have a Nikon F2SB black body with no paint missing with DP-3 viewfinder that has never had 1 roll of film through it. I bought the camera in '77.
Is this camera worth anything? If so, what is the going rate?
Also have a used Nikkor.C 80-200mm zoom. Is that lens worth anything?

The F2SB is worth something, KEH has one listed in Exc condition for about $750, as for the lens, I have no clue.

With respect to the body, before I'd use it, I'd have it refoamed, even though it's new. The dust seals and mirror cushion will deteriorate, even if there hasn't been any film loaded into the camera ever. Since it's 33 years old, stuff may be getting sticky and gooey.

I've had my F2 cameras serviced by Sover Wong and lenses serviced by Pete Smith. Both repairers do top notch work. Sover's website is worth a visit whether or not you choose to ship to him.

Who should you send it to? Where are you located in the world? Always tell people if you're in the U.S., U.K., Australia or whatever.

Regarding the body, I would test fire it to make sure that it works. Also, hopefully, you never put any batteries into the body.

And make sure that deteriorating foam doesn't get into the shutter mechanics. Because then you'll really have problems.

I think the best thing for me to do is get it checked out first and make sure the camera is in top notch working order and then put it up for sale.

The F2SB is normally considered the most valuable variant of the Nikon F2. Sell with care. A MINT kit with matching 50mm 1.4 sold in the UK for £3000.

The SB high cost is false, its not as good as an AS.People mistakenly desire the SB thinking its a rare collectible or has better performance than the AS.
If you are selling do it now before people wake up.
If you are buying, buy an AS.

I had an AS new in 77. It was stolen and yeah at that time I could get an SB at sale price because they were phasing out. The SB is definitely worth less to me than the AS but I know it generally fetch the highest price. It's rare I think, I am not sure but Nikon only made the SB for a year or so.

The DP-3 is a better finder, if you plan to use non-AI lenses with full-aperture metering. Otherwise, the DP-12 is better. The only two DP-3's I've dealt with have either had broken FRE's, causing one indication to be displayed at all times, or were quite erratic, whereas, the multiple DP-12's I've owned have all been smooth in operation and accurate. Even the two finders that had impact damage.

Of the two, the DP-12 is a lot more common than the DP-3, since, like Dia mentioned in his post above mine, it was a 1976-77 finder, whereas the DP-12 went from 1977-early 1980. So, a body with a DP-3 (F2SB) will be more expensive than the body with a DP-12 (F2AS). Surprisingly, the F2's with the DE-1 nonmetered prism are all over the place, price-wise.

I guess by the time the F2 was introduced built in meter is the norm so that few ever bought the F2 with the DE-1 and thus is scared. At one time I think around 1980 or so I visited a camera store I saw they had the DE-1 on sale for $42. In 1980 $42 wasn't all that cheap but I picked it up any way. In 1984 when I my F2AS was stolen I gave my friend the DE-1. Now think about it I had 2 of the most valuable viewfinder for the F2. Well the DP-3 was more rare but I don't think I want it more than the DP-12.
