I just got my first AF lens for my Pentax 645IIN. I saw that the minimum focus distance was 1 meter, but when I went to take some test shots it focused much closer. Got me thinking. Is the minimum focus distance from the front of the lens, or from the film plane?

Ha, and the 645's are pretty long cameras too, to the film plane gives you few extra inches compared to the lens!

its also how you use dof to get you in even closer too.

my rb 50mm can get down to a few inches to infinity at max f-stop.

Use close up tubes, bellows, and with some cameras reversing the normal lens.
