Hi guys

I intend to shoot a lot of Neopan 400 at 400 and pushed to 1600 in both 135 and 120 format this year. Have had some reasonably good results with TMax developer and Ilford Stop, Fix and Washaid. I was wondering whether anyone else uses the Neopan and TMax combination and what their development times, temps and agitation process was (for development and fixing)? I'd really like to tap in to some of the experience on this board if possible!

Many thanks.

Charlie.

I have souped Neopan 400 in HC110 (35mm). My notes state Dil B for 6.5 minutes at 68F works best. 30 second initial agitation and 5 second for each following 30. 30 second in stop and then 5 minutes in fix. Roughly same agitation as dev. 5-10-20 rinse and PhotoFlo. Crack the top, hang to dry. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I develop a lot of Neopan pretty much the same as most others: Rodinal ~1:150 for about 90min. at room temp. Gently invert for two minutes and let stand the rest. The time, temp, and dilution aren't terribly critical once you get out there.

However, that is not the normal method of development. If one wants to push 400PR and get consistently good results one should quite simply stick to this developer: Kodak XTOL.

Stand development with Rodinal is considered abnormal and inconsistent these days? I wish someone would tell me these things sooner.

I have seen examples of DDX and Neopan 400 pushed to 1600 and very good they looked too. However Xtol seems to be a very versatile developer with many satisfied users and even in the U.K., home of Ilford, it is much cheaper than DDX. Pity about the price of DDX

I use FX39.
