I've been using the 2 versions lately at the same time because my digi-neg output with CS2 is awful in comparrison to CS. I can't figure out what is different. Color control is switched off in both versions, yet 2 seems to destroy the curves that work so well with CS. Has anyone come across this and if so, what am I doing wrong? As far as I can see, both versions are set-up the same. Am I going to have to recalibrate the curves for the different version?

Thanks in advance.

Bill,

I've run into similar problems with CS2. With color control off, and all the other settings the same, the negatives are a different color than when printed from the same computer to the same printer using CS. I didn't feel like wasting the chemistry to print them, so I can't say if CS2 is also screwing up my curve. Anyway, I'm in the process of recalibrating.

Define awful. The colour management actually changed quite a bit between the two versions. What were your settings in CS?

Bill,

Are you setting the Color Handling Option in the Print Preview to No Color Management? This is a new option in CS2. Also make sure the Document Profile setting is set to the documents Color Working Space.

In the Printer setup dialog box make sure the Color Management is set to off.

This should create didtal negatives the same as CS 1.

Thanks Don, but still not working. Although I had not set the color management to off in the print priview, I had done so in the printer dialog box. Changing it in the preview did nothing. I am perplexed. I have all color management settings off and everything seems as if it is set the same as CS1.

Sounds like you have covered all the obvious bases Bill. An outside chance is that somehow it might have started using a different version of the printer driver or that for some reason there is an incompatibility between CS2 and your driver (which I would have expected to be documented on Adobe website). Might be worth trying to check for updated printer driver on manufacturers website.

Suppose that you have tried Adobe Support, this is one where you ought to expect them to help you with.

The problem as you describe it sounds like it is being incorrectly being converted to 8 bit. Not sure if you are using custom ICC profiles and colour managed workflow or doing something specific for digital negs. Have you been into print dialogue and selected more options to ensure everything set as it should be.

FWIW I had no issues changing from PS7 to CS2 for any of my printers, so frustrated to hear that it is playing up with you.

Thanks you guys. I hadn't even thought of checking my driver. It has been some time since I updated. I'll give it a try and run some more test negs.

Much appreciated.

Solution. Hooray

Thanks to all of you who helped with this. In the end it seems it was Don's suggestion of color management being switched off in the "Print with Preview" function. Actually I think it was that and the driver although the driver alone didn't do the trick. It seems that even with the old driver set to "no color management" in the print dialog, CS2 was overriding this and switching it back on. All working fine now and it seems I can finally abandon CS1.
