I attached a 90 degree prism finder, It is jammed and when attempting remove it the film back release button broke off. I cannot remove the film back that would allow the removal of the prism finder. Any suggestions?

does it help to remoove the film insert from the back first?

I just got my 500c back from KEH, right at 400 bucks, no parts required. Works great. It was locked up from very dryed up grease.

I am somewhat embarrassed! I bought the prism finder without a manual and foolishly did not know that a post protruding from it was the release button for the film back. I thought that it perhaps was some sort of depth of field button. I did get the film back off at the expense of it as I used my jewelers drill to grind an opening under the film back release knob. An expensive lesson! A question, what film backs can be used with a 500 C?

Also worth your time procuring and reading, Ernst Wildi's Hasselblad Handbook. I think the 2nd or 3rd edition might be best suited to your 500C model. The later editions all have sections on the legacy models so it might not matter much which you get.

Compatible Film Backs:
  • A12 Backs: The standard 6x6 back for 120 film, compatible with all 500C models.
  • A24 Backs: Designed for 220 film, though often used with 120, which may require careful loading to avoid frame spacing issues.
  • A16 Backs: Produces 6x4.5cm format images.
  • 12 / 16 / 24 Backs: Older versions manufactured before 1970 work with the 500C.

Every manual you'll ever need. Free will donation keeps the site running. Very nice people.
