Need Help! E6 results in purple shade.

I have been developing some slides with the Tetenal Colortec E-6 Kit, it was pretty good at the beginning. However after a couple of rolls, some e100 and provia, the recent two rolls, elitechrome 100 and e100plus both have a very bad purple shade. I suspected the blix is failing but after a prolonged blix bath. The film looks the same. Any idea what the problem might be? The rolls are expired but so are the earlier ones I developed. The first half roll of the elitechrome actually looks ok, but the purple tint suddenly appear on the second half. Does anyone have some idea what the problem with my process is? Thanks so much!

How expired was the film? A purple or purple-magenta tinge is pretty normal for slide film aged about four or five years in my experience.

I agree about the magenta shade in badly preserved film, but that I observed both in shadows and highlights. In my case the adverse effect was creeping here and there, not uniformly spread on the entire roll, strangely enough.

My notes say that a reddish tint on shadows could be due to a too elevated concentration of pre-bleach. Even if that is the case, I don't know how to relate it to your kit which uses "blix".

How do you control first development temperature? Maybe there is a problem with that. I wouldn't know how to explain, in that case, that the effect on the roll is not uniform, unless there is a separate problem with uniformity of treatment (e.g. horizontality of the tank during the treatment with a rotary processor). You should place the level on the tank itself when checking.

The fact that it appears on half the roll means that it is unrelated/has nothing to do with your processng. If it were a processing issue, it would affect the entire roll.
The problem has to do with your use of expired film. Who knows the exact cause, dont waste energy trying to figure it out, just grab and shoot some fresh film.
