My Bogen quick release adapters all have to short of a screw to engage the tripod socket on a new camera. Anyone know if they make a special long screw version or some such?

It takes a 1/4" screw and needs to come off the adapter another 1/4" - 1/2" or so ideally.

For a manafrotto head? I bet you could just prowl the hardware store and get a 1/4" screw with a big enough head. It's not a special thread or anything. Or is it?

I don't think they would make a long screw version, because it might wreck a 35mm type camera. But you can take the circlip off and remove the screw and replace it with a longer bolt from the hardware store.

The thread itself has a D ring on the bottom so you can screw it in and out with your fingers. I suppose I could just attach it permanently if needed though with a wrench

Wish mine could be screwed with my fingers. Always need to remember the screwdriver.

I use long screws on my tripods. I put a wingnut reversed on first. Then I screw into the camera base lightly and the wingnut tightens against the tripod bottom.

Looks like I need to go to Home Depot then!

I like Home Depot. But in this case take the camera and QR adapter to a real hardware store where you can try and buy what you need and it doesn't come in plastic bags.

Just Rite, makes one, specifically, for the Bogen,
Low-Profile QR.

The hardware store may also have a knob with the 1/4-20 threads so you wouldn't need a screwdriver. Depends on how much room you have. The Lowe's near me has a large selection of knobs and screws and odd pieces that you can buy individually.

McMaster Carrs (I think that is correct) and other on-line hardware vendors can show you what you are looking for. I hate going to places that sell stuff in blister packs - ie, 3 screws for $2.99, etc. when you may need 4 or 17 or 3 buckets worth. What a wild and wacky world we live in...
