I need a filter that will let UV pass - pretty much the opposite of a UV skylight filter...

Its for a project
(there was a url link here which no longer exists) - (I was split for which forum to put this discussion in)

As you can see, its not for imaging directly so it doesn't need to be an actual photography filter - Such a product probably exists at least in a Edmunds Scientific catalog, but I'm hoping for a cheap option...

Any ideas ? What is the glass they use for UV fluoro bulbs ? If I could get a bit of that to put around the sensor would that work ? Or is it just purplish glass with a phosphor coating that wont help as much as I am hoping ?

Just a deep blue/violet Cokin resin filter that has good UV transmission might suffice ?

any help appreciated,
thanks,
Nick

Nick, try Edmund's outlet store. Anchor Optical, I believe.

Man, I'm almost speechless, for once. For a moment anyway...

(Kodak?) 18A filter...
see http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/irfilter.htm

despite the url implying IR filters, it's a collection of spectral data on all your familiar IR filters and the very last section discusses a UV pass filter "18A".

One more thought - AttoHaas or Cyro (acrylic mfrs), manufactured a UV pass acrylic in contrast to the UV filtering product. I was faxed a technical article once by both on spectral response of other-than-UVF acrylic so I can't remember which it was...

I also have no idea where you would find either...although maybe once you find which acrylic mfr does this, you could twist their arm for a sample...just tell them a 48"x96" sheet shipped to NZ makes absolutely no sense.
