A local event coinciding with our dates might provide some very unusual street photography. Hale Farm is about four miles from us. Everything in Hale Farm is geared to a Civil War time frame. If anyone is doing wet plate this would be perfect, but it should work pretty well in silver as well.

This special weekend when you visit Hale Farm & Village you will see an era before the automobile as Hale Farm & Village is pleased to host Carriages in the Park. You will see and learn about 19th Century Carriages and get carried away during this unique weekend in the valley!”

Dolly’s mother is a past president of The Western Reserve Carriage Association. She has two horse drawn two wheeled carriages and a horse drawn sleigh, that were hand made for her by Amish craftsmen. If anyone is interested I am sure she would be happy to have them photographed, especially if you gave her a print.

Due to a slight change of plans and the generalized hyperactive state of 4 kids on a cottage lake, we were not able to make it over to Photostock. However, grandpa and grandma did make home-made ice cream for the kids last week!

During the week I shot 6 rolls of Arista.edu 400 with my beater Rolliecord. I really like family vacation pictures in little black and white square photographs.

I used to reserve...

the silver for "serious" photos, but my small family seems to really like the 2 1/4" square paper prints better than looking at photos on the computer.

Besides, what photos are more "serious" than those of family?

We have another "street" photography application that might be of interest. Howe Meadow is 3-4 miles south of Peninsula on River Road paralleling the Cuyahoga River. Every Saturday morning from 9-12 there is a farmer’s market. Dolly and I have gone to the last three. The farmers set up open walled display tents with a table piled high with product on the customer side, a truck or van on the other. At peak time there may be 300-500 people, beautiful people, beautiful veggies, fruits, pastries, jams, cooking on site, shopping/haggling, a strolling singer guitar player, kids running and playing, people of all ages and dress, a bundle of activity. Besides being photogenic, it all tastes pretty good as well.

The good thing about shooting at a farmer's market is that if you don't see the shot you want you can always have something nice to eat until the shot comes along.

That sounds like fun. My local camera club has "assigned subjects" and one of them is "on the street". sounds like a plan... at least it's an option.

What is Zone VI developer? properties? I might be interested

I've used it very little... I've attached a picture I took from Calumet photo. Below is the description I've found for it...

I've been trying different things now and again for the last 5 years. I finally feel like I've got my process and chemicals dialed in and have settled on highly dilute Rodinal for my negs and Amidol and Ansco 130 for my prints. Time to get rid of the rest... Just hope someone else can use it.


"Zone VI Studios Print Developer

A superior formula for the production of highest quality black and white prints.

Prepare a stock solution: While constantly stirring slowly add the contents of small packet to about 3½ qts. (3 liters) of water at no less than 110°F, slowly add the contents of large packet while continuing to stir. Add cool water to make one gallon (3.8 liters). Stir until solution is uniform.

Directions for use: Dilute 1 part stock with 3 parts water and develop prints for two minutes at 70°F."

It is a week and a half to gathering time and the thread is very quiet. Is there still interest in an event? Do you have prints for show and tell? Bethe is bringing an ice cream maker. When shall we have Bethe’s volunteered pinhole lecture and demonstration? Jeff & Eva please remember the power supply for the enlarger you donated to U Akron. For those who went to Photostock, please bring stories of the event and pictures you shot or showed. Dorothy, have you held on to enough prize money to make the trip? Does anyone have anything else to sell, donate or trade? How are the prints from the morning shoot at Kendall Ledges coming out?

I am working on a new 8x10 project. I have developed a few negatives and hope to make contact proof prints by then for your feed back on the idea.

Does this thread have any arm chair lurkers who would like to join us?

We had a crisis for the campers. The clutch blew up on the 47 year old mowing tractor. That is now repaired and I can mow the yard. It was looking like chainsaw time. Do we have campers coming?

What are your thoughts?

Still in my plans, and should remain that way. I have a scheme in place to get some prints done before this one. Wish me luck.

I'll be staying over at least one night, perhaps two, van camping (vamping?). I guess that depends in part on how many are coming in Friday evening, and if anyone's shooting really early Sat. I may have an equipment idea to show on variable contrast printing.

I can pitch in on the portable outhouse if one is rented.

People please PM me if I made any promises about things to bring. I should have Nicholas' WWII history documentary in hand.

I still have enough prize money left to make it provided I don't end up in a ditch between now & then I don't know yet when or if I'll have time to get any prints together. I think you've seen everything I have. I'd like to come Friday night through Sunday afternoon, but that remains to be seen.

Looking forward to seeing everybody. It's now back to film testing (FP4+ and Rodinal - any ideas?) Lee - I have a tambourine!

I reminded Dolly at dinner tonight that she and Bethe were going to make ice cream this event. She said, "Oh, we better test that out before the weekend." Don't tell Jeff.

NB: Dolly and I were at the Country Maid the other night. I was having peach ice cream. The owner reminded me that the peaches come from their orchard. He also said that if the weather holds they may have a crop of blueberries coming in by our weekend. My favorite fruit.

The new photography wing has opened at the Cleveland Museum of Art as part of the major expansion and the recent east wing opening. Much as Bethe mentioned at the Carnegie Museum, CMA has a three room exhibit of portraits from their own collection going. It is really good stuff if you have time to stop in or if weather makes that choice for us.

We're both coming! We plan on camping, arriving Friday night.

Looking forward to lots of ice cream, and maybe shooting a few pictures too. I read the article, John, and realized I am the wrong business. Unfortunately, I think if I ran an ice cream shoppe I would eat all the product. Sometimes life isn't fair ...

The exhibits sound pretty interesting too. I'll like to see the Wegman for sure if I get a chance.

I need to call the hotel, but I'm planning on coming. I don't remember volunteering anything pinhole, but I'll bring the lenses I made in the workshop. And the ice cream maker, of course. Though if Country Maid has fresh blueberries, I'll leave the rest of you the ice cream I make and head over there. mmmmm, blueberries...

Oh, and if I manage to develop my film by then, I'll bring Photostock shots. No guarantees the way I've been going (having well water sucks sometimes - rust isn't going to help the negs). Though after seeing all the shots posted so far, I don't know if I'll bother - mine are not nearly that good, even in my head.
